The new recipe for caramel colouring in the drinks has less 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI) - a chemical which California has added to its list of carcinogens. The change to the recipe has already been introduced in California but will be rolled out across the US.

Coca-Cola says there is no health risk to justify the change.

But what about the taste, man?!?!

Ah, nm they both suck anyhow.

It seems like regulators might be overreaching on this. I know the anti soda lobby in CA is pretty big though.

Translation: companies are removing carcinogens from their product, but we think they should still have to label it as a carcinogen even though the FDA says people would have to drink thirty times their weight in coke per day to get an exposure to the chemical that might constitute a risk.

No joke, there are signs everywhere stating that something somewhere is known to cause cancer.

I moved to Cali 7 months ago and it made me laugh the amount of signs everywhere saying I was going to die from cancer.

Reading that passage it doesnt really give us any valuable information. It just says that some rats received a dose equivalent to 1,000 cans of coke a day.

It leaves the impression that 1,000 cans a day is the 'not safe' level, but it doesnt actually say that. I imagine that this was lifted straight from Coke's press release and the FDA did not make this statement.

Aspartame is generally regarded as safe.

And if you don't like it you can drink Coke Zero and Pepsi Max instead of Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi.
