Humans aren't biologically primed for cannibalism as a survival tool.

Ok stop... Kuru comes from consuming brain matter from a like species. Prions exist in the brain. Human meat which is killed similarly to cattle, drained before brain matter makes it's way through into the blood stream, doesn't cause Kuru. It's when a brains, or meat which has had brain matter/cells circulate or drift into it, is consumed that CJD, or Kuru takes effect... Prion build up is no good. Mad cow was caused by cow poop used in chicken feed which chicken scraps fed to cows. The prions saturate the soil, the food and the cow brains.
But properly butchered any animal may be safely consumed.
kuru was 8–9 times more prevalent in women and children than in men at its peak — is because while the men of the village took the choice cuts, the women and children would eat the rest of the body including the brain
Means the men still got Kuru even if they did not consume the brain.

Sure the % go up for actually eating brains, or non choice cuts. But if those men who chose the best cuts did so after carrying the corpse back to the village after crushing dinner's head 12 hours ago they are eating prions!
Baring human causes, I think Prions are a greater risk to life on earth than asteroids.

Probably.. And Kuru also spreads..
I'd have to agree somewhat since Creutzfelt-Jakob's syndrome does not manifest for years, for all we know we could all have it. Hey it would be ironic if the only surviving outposters would be Coroiolus..

Yea the dmg has been done to our generation. If you ate a lot of McDonalds during the 80s and 90s you've collected millions of prions yourself.
Think about this. For a very long time the normal way to kill a cow was a bolt to the brain. The dmg to that cow's brain would poor brain matter into the blood stream and that cow's scraps would feed other cows. The saturation levels within US beef stock is off the charts. We've all got it. You're right.
EDIT.. I even named my cave shammy from 10 years ago CJD.

Nope, we did not condone junkfood in my family... Also growing up the nearest Mcd's was probably about 1000 kilometers south. The junkfood culture took a jump somewhere in the end of the 90's here.
Well I've never had beef from the US and I don't think we've had any cases of mad-cow here either.. I'm being hopeful here.
