I have often wondered if the Tower of Babel story outlining its' destruction and the scattering of peoples and language diversity which thereafter ensued wasn't really a case of mankind developing space travel and some other entity slam-dunking the uppity humans back into the stone age.

Seems plausible since w're finding ruins of ancient civilizations that were more evolved then us ALL THE TIME.

I've wondered similar.

When I look at things like the Cargo Cults it makes me wonder if a lot of religions around the world started the same way.

I can think of 3 possible scenarios.

1. Man encountered a more advanced alien species who were here for some reason and our interactions with them led us to believe they were gods.

2. Man has risen to an advanced level before, but it was isolated and the interactions between the advanced civilizations and the less developed civilizations produced belief in Gods.

3. Man was not the first technologically advanced species to evolve on Earth and our interaction with the more advanced species led to the belief in Gods.

A large amount of what we've built would fall apart fairly quickly without maintenance.

Humans have been behaviorally modern for 50,000 years. That's plenty of time for ancient civilizations to disappear.

Aww how cute - IMHO is pissed that there is more evidence for an 'Atlantis' type scenario than there is for some fairy tale God...

I wouldn't say our eyesight or hearing is horrible. We tend to tune out a lot of things we don't think we need. Most of our instincts we pay no mind to, much less other cognitive abilities.
