I'm undecided at this point. I disagree that all travel with small children is a terrible experience, but flight is not something I'm certain I want to chance, either. The air pressure changes on descent are enough to drive some kids crazy (though she's been over mountain passes without any trouble).
I think part of what got these parents in trouble is that they steered clear of the quick fixes like baby benadryl and giving the kids electronic devices because they're good, responsible doctors. I personally have no moral qualms with these, when used is smaller measures.

I cannot imagine needing to be somewhere badly enough that I would take my 3 year old on a flight. I can only imagine how awful this would be for everyone involved, myself especially.
Well it was important for this family to have their vacation in Turks and Caicos rather then somewhere they could drive too.

children's benadryl is great. if possible plan the flight to coincide with nap time or late at night when they would normally be sleeping. also, non-stop flights are a bad thing with a young kid. letting them get out and run around for an hour in the middle can really help.

I don't think the tantrum was the issue as much as it was how long it took them to get her into the seat. The majority of the people were probably more annoyed with the parents than the kid.
It's never taken me more than 30 seconds to get my kids into a seat regardless of how they felt about it.
They probably sat there forever trying to talk the little girl into the seat.
You're bigger than them. Put them in the seat and fasten the belt. It's not hard.

I don't mind well mannered kids on a flight but sometimes when they are really little they just shouldn't be flying.
