i also think you'd get a lot of variety in your responses from rabbis on ANY topic (it's like they live to debate any possible question), but even disregarding the biblical kingdom or any interpretation of the bible regarding the name - i don't think it changes the current fact that there is a nation called Israel, and i also don't think that for there to be any way forward for the Palestinian people they need a nation of their own as well (similar to your point the term "Palestine" not really having a nationalistic context prior to 1967, ultimately it doesn't matter - there's a demand and a need for it now.)

arguing that there shouldn't be a country called Israel, while it might be an interesting academic discussion it's not one that is likely to lead to any real resolution of the conflict which is all i really care about at this point. i've increasingly become a fan of the J Street organization (http://jstreet.org/), although i'm sure they're just another tentacle in the vast zionist conspiracy octopus, amirite?
