its more valid science than your MMGW religion

and if any of you think they can predict the weather more than 30 minutes into the future, then you need to come to chicago for a couple days.

It's called Chaos theory you half wit and that would be weather not climate you stupid effing retard.

and im not surprised you cant apply the theory to the topic at hand.
scaling is a major discipline of chaos math. what works on a micro scale also holds true for the macro scale.

a thousand butterflies flyign in the sahara can affect long term weather patterns (read: climate) in chile.

its the minutia of possibilities that present themselves as able to effect the climate
and you morons want to claim that man is responsible for everything.
we are but a lowly player on a grand field that none of you are capable of understanding in the ways which you claim to.

everything on the face of this planet effects the climate.
change one variable and you throw the whole system out of whack, ie; move the butterflies and northern scotland starts growing bananas but the glaciers in canada will probably survive.

Butterflies in the desert?

Anyway, on topic, that's chaos theory. Also, tsunamis are a weather event, not part of climate (climate is long-term averages of temperature, air pressure, precipitation, etc. in an area). Just saying.

[Edit:]Just saw this:

To effect a long-term change, the cause would have to be long-term as well. Unless there is a butterfly flapping its wings in the same way daily for a century (with exactly the same results - against chaos theory principle anyway) then it's not likely at all to have an effect on the climate.

This is what makes climate such a reliable measuring point - it takes a LOT to make small changes in climate.

the cause doesnt have to be long term.

a butter fly flaps it wing causing a tornadoe in austrailia that shifts a low pressure system north causing the pacific ocean current to stall by a day, delaying la nina by a week and pushing the jet stream off which melts the glaciers a little more than usual....

you dont seem to truly understand the butterfly effect.

think a snow flake on the mountain side that causes an avalanche which kills the parents of the president who would eventually stop ww3....
only on a more realistic scale.

the butterfly effect is what makes climate science as much of a joke as weekly weather forcasts.

you cant know the unknown. you cant predict chaos. you cant graph chaos in an attempt to explain it. it is unexplainable by definition.

blaming the half a degree celcius (what is that, a tenth of a real degree?) on SUVs is retarded. its just as likely blamed on a snake farting in the sahara or a supernova in an, as yet, undiscovered galaxy.
btw, they think a supernove attributed to the mildness of the little iceage. so its not out of the question to blame our tenth of a degree warming trend on some other celestial body, or a mouse sneazin in zimbabwe.
