It's obviously a dramatization but iirc the campaign director for both Palin and McCain gave it their seal of approval for accuracy.

Palin said Game Change was based on a "false narrative" and that she did not intend to see it.[12] The film, and the book it is based upon, has been described by John and Cindy McCain as inaccurate.[13] Like Palin, McCain said he did not intend to see it.[11] The Hollywood Reporter noted that the film's top talent and executives donated US$200,000 to Democratic causes and none to Republicans.[14]
However, Steve Schmidt, the campaign's chief strategist, stated: "Ten weeks of the campaign are condensed into a two-hour movie. But it tells the truth of the campaign. That is the story of what happened."[15] He later said that watching the film was tantamount to "an out-of-body experience."[16]
Nicolle Wallace, a chief Palin 2008 aide, said she found Game Change highly credible, saying the film "captured the spirit and emotion of the campaign."[15] Wallace also told ABC News Chief Political Correspondent George Stephanopoulos that the film was "true enough to make me squirm."[17]
So Wikipedia agrees with you, Ash (not the campaign directors, but chief aides from both camps). Still, I wouldn't lend it too much credence.

Yeah my bad, the aides. I saw an interview with both of them around the time it came out and they vouched for the authenticity of it I think. I'll try to dig up video.

Weird how Palin and McCain and Mrs McCain can declare with absolute certainty that the movie is inaccurate and also say they haven't seen it and do not plan to.

It is a movie. I might watch it but I'll understand it is a movie. Only really stupid people get their world view from a movie. The facts are out there but it would require some real work, something your average person is unwilling to do. That is why it is harder to be a conservative. You have to study both sides and decide for yourself.
The last thing you want to do is base your political views on a movie. Such a shame that so many people do.

I haven't seen the film, but it was a topic on a political gabfest I listened to today. The general consensus was that the writers toed a fine line of telling enough of the truth to carry the flavor without humiliating Palin with too much truth, while keeping McCain and key staffers looking pretty clean.
I'm sure it will be entertaining enough to reshape actual events in the memory of viewers though.
