I carry a gun every day. I have, of necessity, had a lot of training in Use of Force laws. Washington is almost identical to Florida.


In a one-on-one encounter there is no way a ~140 pound teenager can represent a significant threat of "great bodily harm" to a 200+ pound man. This is the minimum level of perceived threat that is required before you can lawfully respond with deadly force.


Reminder: Great Bodily Harm is generally defined as, at minimum, broken bones level of damage to your person. A bag of Skittles wielded by a skinny-ass teenager simply does not pass the smell test.

Ok how about you let me bash the back of your head once and we will see just how much it matters. According to eyewitnesses Zimmerman was walking away when he got hit in the back of the head which left a laceration with bleeding. He also had a bloodied nose. Plus im willing to bet i know a 150lb fighter who could kick a 250lb punks ass in a heart beat. Size doesnt matter, especially when you get sucker punched.

Hell if I was being followed in a dark alley by a suspicious guy thats 200lbs heavier than me I would prolly decide offense is best defense too.

Well, it actually would matter if he was walking away. Even if he was the initial aggressor, if he terminated the encounter and was walking away, things reset in terms of the law. If you then get attacked you can legitimately exercise your right to self defense.


This is the sort of thing that should go to trial. Not be up to some random police officer to figure out. There was clearly enough cause to arrest the guy.

Agreed if Florida didnt have this POS stand your ground law.

Same thing happened to us here locally where i live a few months back that i worked on. White guy confronts black guy to try to quiet down his dog. White guy walks away, black guy comes up behind and starts beating the shit out of white guy. While white guy is on ground getting kicked and screaming for help he manages to pull gun out for which he has a conceal license for and plus the black guy 3 in the chest, 1 in the abd. With witnesses and statements white guy goes to hospital and released later that day. Black guy we kept alive to the hospital but died an hour later....pierced aorta. Where was the uproar on this case?

I dont see why this matters? The guy got a blind jump on the hispanic dude and beat the piss out of him while all the hispanic dude was doing was defending himself and calling for help.
