So much stink about this case. The guy was hit from behind, the back of his head had a laceration and blood coming out, he had a bloody nose and was scuffled up with grass stains on his pants. He felt his life was being threatened and shot the punk ass kid.
The only thing he did wrong was that he didnt stop following the thug when asked to by the 911 operator.
Yes, the stand your ground law needs to be changed but this isnt going to go anywhere if they follow the law the way it stands now.

You cannot initiate an encounter and then try to claim self-defense.

Yeah, chasing a kid down, then shooting him when he defends himself from you isn't a protected right....not even in Florida, not even with that stupid law they have there.
The law allows you to stand your ground (not chase them down), it also allows you to use equal force (not shoot an unarmed child).
Back to the subject of the OP. When I go totally psycho, I wont move to Florida, I'll simply bring Florida to wherever I'm currently living.  |

He might have followed the kid but he didnt initiate the violence.

He initiated the encounter. He didn't have to follow the kid in the first place.
Worse, there's a significant disparity of force here. Zimmerman is 200+ pounds. The teenager was a buck-forty soaking wet. The kid had a far better justification for lethal force than Zimmerman had.
