Atheists routinely focus on Christians as being bigots and anti-science. They tend to ignore the loving nature or Christianity. The spirit shown in the article is indicative of most Christians. This atheist had his eyes opened.

I'm an atheist and I don't hate religious people.
I do hate when some religious people use their beliefs to try to create laws to limit everyone's freedom based upon what they think everyone should do...or not do.
Oh, and I also hate when people use "god said so" as a reason for anything.
In short, I hate religious nut bags, American Taliban and their ilk. Has nothing to do with their religion, has everything to do with them trying to force me to follow the tenets of their particular faith.

I strongly doubt the motivations for your actions come solely from within.
We all have external pressures both real and imagined that shape our behavior.
Why do you have such an aversion to the idea of God?
How is believing in God any different than believing in justice or purpose?
Both are just as imagined.
