The guys wearing the gas masks remind me of professors who were forced to read abstract idiosyncratic dense material, the intellectual equivalent of teargas, and what they say makes no futzing sense: Do it because I did it. There is an element of sadistic pleasure in it. The ritual reified is meaningless. At this stage you tell the Recons to futz off, all your professors to futz off and you realize , you yourself are a maestro without any of the external nonsense.

What a crock of sht... The US military should save themselves a sht load of training costs for that crap by just sending the soldier wannabes somewhere in America and tell them to protest for freedom. You want to learn about tear gas survival?

Looked like everyone carrying Fred had dumped their ruck on a buddy.
Probably a hard march for basic trainees, but it didn't look unreasonable for a leg unit. I dunno WTF they were sniveling about. Try a 40 mile movement-to-contact in a snowy woods with sub-zero temperatures instead of just walking up a road in the sun.
