Women are doing fine despite the failure to pass the equal rights amendment.

So what would have been the point of passing it? Would they be finer?

That wasn't really the point of the article. ERA was just one part of the shift.

In 1970, George Bush got the Family Planning Act passed, providing birth control to millions of women a year (and stopping hundreds of thousands of abortions per year, which should make anyone cheer if they're not a moron). In 1992, Bush was the nominee for a party that deleted the stuff about women being allowed to pursue any career from their party platform and changed it to "homemakers are better" and supported forcing raped women to have their rapists' babies.

women's lib is the worst thing that has happened to this country. Teh mass migration of women tot he workforce has had dire consequences we are still feeling today.

The problem isn't women's lib. The problem was going about it the wrong way. The solution wasn't to make everyone work full time. The solution was to create a society where men and women can both work 30 hours a week instead of one working 60 a week and one not working at all.

P.S. Working class women have always worked. The big shift in women's lib was that middle class women wanted to start working too.

Terrible idea.if there is no pressure to not work and pressure to "achieve" it was a reasonable outcome to assume both parents would work as much as possible or at least as much as "normal. To the detriment of society and family.

Keeping half the (middle class) population out of the workforce "for their own good" wasn't as great as you seem to think it was.

You're just putting around the old lump of labor fallacy.

The problem with the modern family is that people work too long hours, not that women work at all.

France does a lot better than America when it comes to having healthy families. If you want to create a society that has healthy families where both parents have time to spend with their kids you could pick worse places to emulate.
