It depends what sort of people you two are.
If you lead with your emotions and it goes bad then it will have not been worth it. But if you are rational intelligent people and it doesn't go well then you will both still be adults.

My wife has taken me to far too many movies on this topic, where two co-workers go out, then some awkward moments happen, some hilarious shenanigans ensue, then in the end everyone falls in love and lives happily ever after for me not to endorse this idea 100%.
