Lotteries are an awful way for the government to raise money.

I like 'em. It's a completely voluntary tax and unlike paying income taxes you actually have a chance (albeit miniscule) to win mirrions

I would be happier about it if the money was supplementary funding. It seems that Illinois has just shifted its money around so that the lottery funds most of the road/school budgets rather than bringing in extra for improvements to an already stable tax base.

It makes perfect sense.

People without money are more desparate to find a way to get some than people with money. The phrase "It takes money to make money" comes into play as well.

That seems unlikely.

This seems like an article thrown together quickly for the mega millions craze and I bet they misread a study as they quickly scanned it.

I don't know. That's not even $2 a day. Lots of folks have to play their lucky number every day.

But not everybody. Seems unlikely that every poor person in America spends just under $2 every day on the lottery.

Wise choice. at 175 million to one odds they stand a better chance of winning the Mega jackpot than they do of ever having Republicans help then out in any way..

I buy like a dollar lottery when it gets to 300 million or so.

I know I will never win, but whatever.

it could happen (yeah right.)

would be awesome though, I like thinking of what I would do with that much money haha.

Probably what the study said is that households with incomes under 13k that buy lottery tickets spend that much. Which I can believe.

People don't realize you have to be either old and near death or already wealthy to win the lottery.

Have never really heard of anyone who is young and broke with a family winning.

Yeah. That was my assumption.
