These days I'm sure we'd have a tax break for slaves so they wouldn't be so expensive.

Slaves slept in the barn with the other livestock... They were cheap. They ate the scraps likedogs do.

pretty much a solid investment for people who can't afford several specialized slaves.

They werent cheap. You had to house and feed them and provide all their needs even if it wasnt much. This is why so few southerners could afford to have so few. Most people in the South only had one or two slaves with the big plantations being the exception not the rule

Uh no slaves were massively expensive to buy and sell. Wage slaves are much cheaper because you can externalize a lot of the costs on society as a whole and when they get sick you can just fire them.

Exactly. Wage slaves plus industrialization is way cheaper but like Yuki says society pays the cost.
The fact is if slavery was profitable it would probably still be legal. Slavery is still profitible in the sex industry unfortunately

They were expensive to buy but not to maintain. The only people that had slaves were people with big farms that needed workers.
Id rather be a wage slave than a slave slave.

Being a wage slave is better by far for sure. At least you get some choice in your life. Life for slaves in America was hell, pure hell. This nation was founded on hypocrisy and slavery.

That's why it works so well.
It is a better way, but make no mistake, should the dollar stop working the whip will return.
