I'd probably give it to a neighbor and tell them it's a gift from the company.

Tell the company. That way they fire the insubordinate warehouse associate and explain to them why they should audit their logistics process to perhaps find additional incompetent workers to fire

I'd call. I can hardly see a company paying return shipping, and if they have even halfway decent CS they won't threaten to charge you for the item you didn't order/want, as it's their mistake.
That said, if they DID demand that I pay for the item or pay to ship it back, I'd ask for the CS rep's supervisor first. If things didn't change with the supervisor, I'd notify them I'm never shopping with them again, and will make the lack of CS known to friends/family.
