I hate to agree with spilt of all people but he's right your original hypothetical is flawed from the get go. Copyright infringement is not stealing. We call them different things because they are different.
Your title actually sounded interesting but the post wasn't because it veered off in another direction.
I would be more interested in talking about what your title does. For example, most people would never steal a pen from some other individual. But many of those people would take a pen from their company for personal use even if they arn't supposed to.

So when pirates raid merchant vessels, they aren't really stealing the stuff on the merchant vessels, they are making copies of the stuff? Right on!

I had a dream. It was an incredible dream. When I awoke, I had a huge mess to clean up.

ofc there's a difference.
especially when the corporations in question has been making record profits for years, and studies have shown that filesharing and piracy does not have a negative impact on sales.. Some say the opposite because people who like something will buy it.
I have bought every series I like on dvd or blu-ray, same with movies and games..
I use Spotify for music.

Stealing is stealing. It will take from someone, even if that someone is spread over the many stockholders. I see no difference. Liberals will point to some trust fund baby and say he will not miss it. I point to the retired school teacher who will miss it big time.

There are three kind of liberals;
Stupid, ignorant or evil
The result is always evil but the intent is not always evil. Not that it makes much difference in the long run.

Theft and copyright infringment are different things...so yeah, a different reaction to them is warranted.
The 2nd part does not follow from the first part.
