And wasn't America significantly less free than it is right now for the vast majority of its history? Between the Alien and Sedition Acts, slavery, Jim Crow, indentured servitude, internment, chain gangs, miscegenation laws, lynch mobs, lack of suffrage, incredibly high rates of taxation in the top tiers, and other such fun things, we're definitely in one of the most free periods in American history. And that's before you even get into positive freedoms, such as the freedom to walk into a library or log onto wikipedia and learn, or the freedom to not get sick and die because the FDA tested your food.
