Running it? I wouldn't be bothered, I would hand privileges over to like Kewt or just put out a basic application for someone with the experience/knowledge of VN:Boards, I'm sure there would be plenty of qualified candidates.

All in all, it would cost me like $10 to have it added, until June is my down time, don't really have much work for my designer, he's still getting paid, this would keep him busy.

Everyone is bitching about how this is going to suck, thought I would throw in a easy solution.

I love your idea because I love the format of VN... the color scheme and layout... I dislike the format at reddit alot hehe... especially that bright white background and light blue font... hopefully that's something that is account-customizable... but ya for this project I'm definitely the wrong guy for the job... the extent of my html is like <PRE> <H3> <FONT FACE> and <BR> lol... I dunno shit about the PHP, CSS, and SQL that you need to make an exact replica of this site... my friend robby might though... I'll point him at this post and have him pm you if he has the time to do it... but it sounds like the designer you got already is capable and has idle time

I meant hand you over admin privileges to police the board on my site, and bring in any person you thought would be fair when enforcing rules, etc.... If you have the time of course.

ya not enough time... juggling four projects atm hehe... but I think moderation duties can be passed onto a combination of robots and the community:

30 second post barriers built into the system like VN currently has can prevent the database from being flooded by post macros... a 1500 gigabyte hard drive would last for decades under those conditions I think... it would die of mechanical failure long before it ran out of space hehe... and the system can be set to limit users to creating no more than Z new threads per day

x-rated images maybe could be handled with a voting system... if an image has received no downvotes then it is displayed as is in its shrunken caption form... but after a certain number of downvotes from unique IP addresses, instead of displaying the shrunken image it only shows the URL with a warning next to it saying what number of downvotes it received and that it may be NSFW

by requiring the votes to come from unique IP's I think it raises the cost for proxy users to such a level that most won't bother... not to mention that the clickable URL will still be there untouched so a proxy voter can never do that much damage with false positives anyway

also you could have it where someone who has repeatedly posted NSFW images more than Y times has any image link he posts automatically flagged as potentiallly NSFW hehe... and it takes Z days for the partial gag to expire

my friend robby almost definitely would know how to make such a voting system in case you can't find anyone who does... I think maybe have the thumbs down icon off somewhere to the right so that it isn't accidentally clicked...

as for what values to tune the system with I'm not sure... maybe these:
30 seconds between posts on the same thread - after 5 posts within 200 seconds it rises to 90 seconds per post - etc

maybe a ceiling of 35 new threads per day per account?

also have some ceiling of empty lines per post... so that a thread can't be hijacked with 100s of empty lines... could have the system auto-trim anything over 5 lines of empty space down to 5 lines

5 thumbs down to get a potential NSFW warning and have shrunken images transform into URLs

after 3 NSFW warnings, all posts auto-flagged for 3 days... second time around 6 days... etc

some cap on the number of new accounts created from the same IP in some time interval as well... maybe 1 new account per 10 days?

I dunno these are just a few rough ideas I had just now... probably alot of room for improvement hehe

but I think any methods similar to these will distribute the burdens of moderation across the shoulders of the community and the bots... instead of concentrating them on a few individuals... which I think is ultimately better for the psychic health of all parties involved
