Such truth. Spot on.

While the thread is about the "Annoying Patcher", the above quote is more encompassing than that. It is a totally spot on statement.
Mythic has taken a great concept and totally borked the implementation. That is why DAoC (DAoC = a better game concept than WoW) is dieing while the population of an inferior game concept like WoW is still growing. WoW, an inferior game concept to DAoC, had better implementation.
Edit to change 'has' to 'had'.

I don't think WoW is an inferior game concept, I think it is a different game concept...
I like the RvR in DAoC better, but I like the PvE and raiding content in WoW much better. Two different concepts in my opinion. Not that it matters, really.
The original implementation of DAoC was wonderful, I think they just hacked away too much trying to fix something that wasn't all that broken.

I have fond memories of being in the military. For some reason, that I no longer remember, as soon as my hitch was up I departed the military as fast as I could. The more time that passes the more fond my memories of the fun of being in the military. Funny how that works.
The original DAoC game was great, but it was also littered with bugs, it had huge balance problems, it lacked many player friendly features, etc. . . . .it was a great game but it needed a lot of work. While Mythic did address a small number of the early game problems, they ignored many other glairing problems and focused on new content slapping out Xpacs about every 9 months.
Mythic’s early mantra seemed to follow the concept, “It is easer and more fun to create new content than to delve into old content trying to address/fix old problems.â€
About the time that SI came out the game was bleeding customers almost as fast as it was gaining new blood. Players were disgusted by all the unaddressed bugs, the lack of customer friendly features, and the broken promises by MJ. No, not all customers felt that way but enough that by the time of SI the game was mostly treading water, bleeding almost as much as it was gaining.
DAoC and WoW are not so very different. Both have a ‘Knights of the Round Table’ (style/feeling) PvE and both have PvP. DAoC’s three-realm concept is far superior to WoW’s two-realm concept. While WoW does have bugs, Blizzard spent more time addressing bugs and spent more time adding player friendly features than Mythic ever conceived of. Blizzard took the inferior two-faction concept and with better implementation Blizzard built a game that has not yet stopped growing.
Mythic took the superior three realm concept, neglected it, pandered to players dark side, lied about why player friendly features were being tabled (not implemented), ignored glairing bugs, to try and sell more Xpacs they added OP classes that upset balance, to sell more subscription they promoted the use of Bots, etc. . . .etc . . . etc. . . The list of Mythic self-destructiveness could go on for pages. That DAoC has not been killed by Mythic’s inept dealings is a testament to the greatness of the original DAoC concept.

Yeah.. gonna have to agree with you..

The problem with this is that you can't do this with a subscription game. People are paying for the developers to do the hard work of looking back at old problems. That's what they're paid for.

I'm not disagreeing with the mishandling of the game by Mythic, and I personally never felt anything that you describe regarding the SI era. I was happy with the game, even with the balance issues, until ToA came out. I just didn't enjoy PvE... I enjoyed RvR. For me, PvE was just a means to get to the RvR. When ToA came out, and all these special bonuses and wonderful artifacts, and master level abilities were needed to compete in RvR, I grew weary of trying to do all of this PvE.
Then there was NF, and I never enjoyed it as much as the OF. I liked the turtling that would go on in the RK's, and the Frontier Gate battles. Though I DO really like having towers now, I just like the old keeps and frontier setup better. I do really like the new UI changes, and mounts, and a lot of other things that still could have happened without changing so much about the game that I had liked. But that's just me, and these are all subjective things, so I don't doubt others disagree.
As far as the inferior/superior concept... DAoC was touted as an RvR game. The whole game's focus is on RvR: frontiers, keeps, relics that have affects on your entire realms abilities, darkness falls... and yes, for that purpose, the 3 realm system is superior in my mind. WoW's focus is a PvE game, primarily the instanced raiding dungeons. They provided some battlegrounds, and later arenas, but the PvP isn't really the game's primary focus, in my opinion. So, again, I say simply that they are DIFFERENT CONCEPTS, not necessarily superior/inferior. If PvP is what you enjoy, then 3 realms is superior in my opinion (subjective, again), but if PvE is your focus, then 2 realms/3 realms, doesn't really matter now, does it?
