Like said when this was originally posted; this mostly just tenders to DAoC players.
WAR is still bringing in more money than DAoC and Ultima, all you need to do is play the game... you see that there people everywhere. In random dungeons, in battleground instants, in the PvP areas... etc.

It mostly brings up points that your average camelot player *wants* to hear:
- Oh DAoC was so good.
- We were working on a DAoC 2
- Warhammer sucked, yet it still took 40% of the DAoC player, in which only about 15% came back.

You can't take these things seriously; it would be like...
If I went on a basketball forum, and posted a blog about how Cleveland didn't really want LeBron, and how is actually awful. And this year we were planning on getting him some first rate help, but the bosses said "NOPE! surround him with more mediocre players that the league will soon forget!" And then they let him go. And now, Miami is a bad team, but still; Toronto and Cleveland are bringing in more bucks than Miami in jersey sales.
It just gives people, what they want to hear.
=o) that actually turned out to be a better comparison then originally imagined.

^^^^

Try a different analogy:

10 years ago landlord A borrowed $2M dollars, built a block of flats and rented them out. For the first two year occupancy was through the roof, all the pads were rented out; not to bad for the next three years but of late occupancy has dropped off so that now only 10-1% of the flats are let. Still the loan that landlord A took out was paid off and its all profit now - although to stay in profit meant letting most of the staff go last year and putting the flats into maintenance mode. Only a matter of time before the rain leaks in and the whole thing collapses; still its been a good run and landlord A has made a tidy profit - especially after selling out to that national hotel chain Buy Them Up, Close Them Down.

Having entered late BTUCTD decided to make a splash with a massive block of flats. Money was no object and with inflation BTUCTD took out a loan of $200M. The banks got cold feet after several delays however, the whole thing was scaled back and eventually opened with much of the razzle dazzle absent. Initial interest looked promising, lots of people came to look around but few stayed after the first month and by the end of the quarter occupancy had slumped with barely a quarter of the rooms let. Still more rooms are let than in the original tenament / codominium - altough not by much.

Sadly after mortgage interest charges on the loan the prospect of ever making a profit seems impossible. And people keep vacating the rooms as well.

Who knows what you might be able to get if you spend even more money. Next year we may well find out.

It is; I'm not defending that. Thing is, DAoC's grand 5-9k total population isn't anything to pound your chest and scream from the rafters =o)

Daoc = 10 years old and cost 2 million to make. War = 2years old and cost $75 million and had the best IP in the industry. THAT"s the humorous part.
