i hate when people always give fradulent advice...

if he subscribed, and gave mythic permission, (wich he admits he did) then he cannot have the creditcard/bank reverse the charges because that is fraud... he agreed to pay it in the first place.

if he just "thought" he canceled the account, and didnt.. thats not mythics fault, or the credit card company's fault.. its his fault.. and he is responsible for the charges.. disputing them is fraud and could get him thrown in jail..

many years back i worked for AOL's billing department, dealt with alot of people that got advice like people are trying to give in here.. and got charged with fraud when they disputed valid charges

is you signup for a service, and agree to pay.. you are responsible wether you use that service or not... its on you.

so before commiting fraud by disputing them... try to work with the vendor....

Umm, yes he can get the credit card companies to refuse to pay. I've done it when I dispute the quality of services rendered. No questions asked. Credit card companies allow you to refuse to pay if you've been cheated. He cancelled the account (did you miss the part where he said his account shows being closed?), mythic bungled the billing...again! LOL. Ask your credit card to refuse payment and charge Mythic a fee for your misery.

p.s. AOL, LOL. Not the best example, trust me. Those guys were really sleazy in refusing to shut down services or putting ridiculous hurdles in place. I had my credit card refuse to pay AOL for exactly that. I tried to cancel my dial up service in the early 90's. AOL gave me the run around and I had Visa cancel payments. NOthing ever happened to me. AOL was a bunch of crooks.

it doesnt matter if people get away with it, disputing charges after giving the company permission to bill, is fraud... most people get away with it, because prosacuting every case would be a legal nightmare, but i've seen people hit with fraud charges from it in the past...

wich is why its always best to get things straight through the vendor... if it is realy a billing mistake, mythic will fix it.. if its not.. then the guy is responsible for the charges...

AOL never refused to cancel accounts, yes they tried to talk you into staying, but all you had to do was tell them to shut up and just cancel the account...

aol was dirty and underhanded, but none of the charges were without the consent of the person being billed.

i hated aol before i worked for them, hated them more after working for them... but i can honestly say they arent crooks, they never did anything illegal that i saw.

Illegal and unethical are different. AOL was the latter. They put all sorts of barriers and complexities in to make it very difficult to stop their service. That's why I had my credit card company nail them.

Why should a consumer have to deal with an inefficient vendor to refuse charges? Will the vendor pay for their time and hassle? If not, it's not fraud at all to ask the CC company to lower the boom. If mythic were capable and had people who cared, I might feel differently, but they have a few people, indifferent to their customers, running the show.
