Returning player here ... played for about a year 2004-2005. Last night I downloaded the 14-day trial, patched it up with no issues. Tried logging in and got the screen that shows all the releases and the load bar.

The bar got about 85-90% and just stayed there. The music went thru three complete sessions before I gave up and went to watch some TV. HD activity was present with some irregularity - making me think system was doing **something**, RAM was about 23-24% and holding, CPU fluctuated between 0 and 3%.

But after a while with no, I figured I'd best get help. So here I am. System -
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S25
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3 ghz)
RAM: 4GB DDR2-1066
Vid: Asus GeForce 8400GS (512MB) PCi Express x16
HD: pri - WD 320GB SATA; sec - WD 320GB PATA w/SATA conversion
Keyboard/mouse: Logitech G-15 Gaming (USB) w/3banks of 18 macro keys; Logitech Optical wheelmouse (USB)
Monitor: Viewsonic 19" LD widescreen

Only thing I could think of is this was doing an initial "sanity check" of components and perhaps I didn't wait as long as I should have.

Suggestions certainly welcome.

So you're telling me you cannot or will not tell me if something is wrong with what I am doing but will tell me all the reasons why I should not at least try to return?

Make sure your firewall isn't blocking the game and that you run it as admin if you're using windows 7.

This is the first loadscreen, before you even get to the char select screen, correct?

This is correct ... I did not get to character creation. Its a display of 8 box/release covers with Trials of Atlantis top-right, etc. That's where I left the game - somewhat after ToA was released.

Sorry - my OS is XP/SP3 ... I've re-edited the original post to reflect that as well. Firewall I have is ZoneAlarm and I turn on GameMode to auto-allow access for full-screen apps when I know I'll need it. Normally that is off and I respond to prompts for allow/deny.

Pfft ... bad day all around I suppose. I see almost the same attitude in the UO forums over on Stratics. <shrug>

As it turns out I can't edit my original post (or don't know how to get there) to add I am running XP/SP3 as OS on my box.

Any clues for the clueless ... either game-wise or edit post-wise?

I have Zonealarm as well, and i just shut Zonealarm down when playing DAoC!

I was wondering when the question was asked. I never had a ZA issue when I played before but there's always a first time. When I get home this evening I'll give it a try - I'm dying to rebuild a Theurgist. That character was fun to work.
