Ladies and Gentlemen, a profile in COURAGE!

Quote:

Friends and Realm-mates:

My name is Talal Saad, but many of you have known me these past 5 years as Eldariian who has served the three realms faithfully as a senior CSR with the In-Game Support team. I have been given the opportunity to continue my service to Dark Age of Camelot in a new role as a Developer.

I have been playing Dark Age of Camelot since Shrouded Isles, and I am grateful for the many years of unforgettable experiences as I participated in the evolution of DAoC first as a player, then as a Mythic employee. Through thick and thin (and despite some good natured ridicule by friends and family), my loyalty to our magnificent game has been unwavering. Simply put: I love Dark Age of Camelot.

I have embarked on this new adventure with a solid objective and a clear vision of the future. Our objective is to demonstrate our appreciation for our loyal players as well as to grab the attention of those that have never experienced DAoC to show them the magic and beauty of the realms and the chaotic brilliance of RvR. The vision that we are working to realize is a game brimming with veteran, returning and new players protecting each other, defending their realm and having a wonderful experience.

I am honored and humbled to do all that is possible to give back to Dark Age of Camelot and its players, who have given me so much.

Your loyal servant,
Eldariian

Talal, good luck.

No disrespect to our friends overseas, but, I mean, COME ON!!!
If you're gonna post in ENGLISH, please, PLEASE, please! proof read it before you post it.

Broken English, yea, I understand he's not from the USA, and I can understand most of it.
But, with a game, trying to get new people to play, and keep the existing playerbase, I'd
think someone should of looked it over first.

No offense either, but how does one go from CSR to developer? Isn't that like taking the front desk girl at the dentist office and suddenly letting her drill fillings?

It takes a lot of nails to build a crib, but just one screw to fill it.

A 'developer' is a generic term, I dare say he'll be working with existing in house tools to modify existing functionality, rather than working on server sockets, memory leaks or threading issues.

Awsten's wisdom.
How does 10% magic damage and 10% spell pierce add up to 23% more damage in poisons?
Hey genius, how about this, Point blank is a 3 sec spell and so is the nightshade nuke.

umm, easy... he either knew how to program from the beginning but was in a CSR position, or he has been going to school and/or learning to program while being a CSR ...

just because someone flips burgers doesnt mean thats all there gunna do for there entire life... same thing with CSR's just because thats the job they have now doesnt mean they cant aspire to be more and learn to be more...

i know how to program, i've known how to program sense the mid 90's ... i write tiny lil apps here and there for personal use... i have never held a job as a programmer or developer... but i could do it if i wanted to.

now, also game developer doesnt mean game PROGRAMMER .... developers also design and direct what other employees do, like the programmer/coders, the art department and such... depending on the position they might not need coding skills themselves and just people management skills.. wich a CSR would be qualified for....

hell even a janitor could be taking courses to be a game dev, programmer... so dont judge a person by there previous job, all the matters is they wouldnt of gotten the position if they didnt have the skills required for that position.

Hickman went from CSR to Producer, not a developer...

Producer has control over all aspects of the game, management position telling people what to do...

thats a complete difrent job then developer, wich is one of the people being told what to do...

and how long was hickman even producer of daoc? ... 3 months, less? shortly after his promotion to producer he was shifted off to WAR...

he was around quite awhile couldn't say exactly... but my point is (and you sort of made it for me) is that CSR responsibilities don't translate to these other positions..
