The old icons are a must You can get them off the Herald just search Old Icons.

Well you picked Albion which imo is the most friendliest realm. I have tried all 3.

Armsmen are fun but can take a while to kill things.

Once you settle into a guild, your guildmates can help u lvl up. Unlike alot of games it is very
easy to power lvl a friend or guildy up to 50. Your first character I would say take your time
enjoy the lore. After that find a friend and hit the pl'ing spots! LOL

Bob's UI is awesome, I agree with the others on that too.

With the RVR you can run solo , duo , 8man, and zerg. Our guild likes to run with the zerg, and we also
run stealthers alot. Depending on which you choose, will affect your game play difficulty. If you need any
help just send me a whisper on Bluefacet / Bluesneakerr / Bluealicious / Cobaltbluee. I am on ywain3. Glad
to see someone just starting the game. Would be glad to help if I can.

The game is older, that is obvious. I try to look at the imperfections, as character. LOL Keep that in mind
and it will cut your frustration lvl down alot. hehe

Yeah, I don't mind the oldness of the game THAT much. Most of my complaints would be with the UI, which I'm in the process of messing with - I have bobsui but I can't get it to translate in-game. I'm guessing I need to put it somewhere and whatnot, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I played around with Mid last night, too. I like Alb/Mid the most... Hib just isn't my thing. I've poked around for guilds on each. ;D

Anyhoo, anyone who could assist me with getting the UI to customize would be appreciated!

armsman is a great starting class since its very easy to play and offers roles in any kind of RvR you'd get into.

Nevermind, found the switch for it in the options menu.

Glad to get continual agreement on the Armsman pick.

Only thing I can say is don't get discouraged when you first start RvRing. The learning curve on pvp will be fairly rough and you'll be behind the power curve at first. I've had many friends who enjoyed this game until they rvr'd and then quit. If you want to take the solo route expect to be raped by larger numbers and rarely get a good fight. Your best bet is to find a friendly guild that will take you out to RvR. If you try to play with random people every night expect to have a few asshat groups out there. This game has its fair share of elitests, just like any other game.

This. A friendly guild/alliance is a must for beginners. As has been mentioned, there is an imposing learning curve being competitive at RvR, and some of the people you'll be playing against have had nearly 10 years to learn it. Surf the class boards, see what people say. The class boards aren't necessarily BUSY, but they get checked and if you ask intelligent questions there, you'll usually get semi-intelligent answers. You'll have to sort through some of the trolls to separate the wheat from the chaff in the replies. Learn what is expected from other players for your class, your guild/as will be helpful as well, but often times you'll find better advice on the boards because the people who come here USUALLY know the game a little better then some of the random nice people you may have in a guild.

Advice: Zerg it up at the beginning for RvR. Brush off all the people who cry in /region about adding, and talentless zergers. It's critical to experience a little success in RvR in your early encounters, and it's easier to do that in a zerg then it is in a random pug. People might rag on you, and it doesn't take a lot of skill, which in the beginning is good. Skill will come as you get to really understand the mechanics and tactics. Zerg vs zerg fights can also be a lot of fun.

Also, assist. You're probably familiar with this from other MMO's but it's pretty critical in DAoC in RvR. Find another melee character in your group (if they don't designate a main assist or MA...euro players occassionally refer to this as AL or assist leader). Make a macro to assist that player (/macro <name of macro> </command> <name of target player>... ie /macro assist /assist jaziza) and stay close to that person. mash the assist macro often, and hit whatever he/she is hitting.

Good luck!

Bob's UI uses a configuration program that automatically changes the files in your Custom folder. It takes some getting used to at first but it's pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. If you installed DAoC in the default location then Bob's shouldn't encounter any programs. After you make your changes in the Bob's UI configuration program, you're going to have to tell the game client to use that custom setup, so at the character select screen, go to options and change your interface from Catacombs/Atlantis Skin to Custom.
