Regardless of what you think about the current state of the game, you will never find another game like DAOC.
No other game will give you;
3 realms (3 different sides)
14 crafting professions (7 being sub-class)
18 different races (excluding the minotaur)
44 different classes (excluding the mauler)
Able to template your character to fit your needs.
True battlegrounds (not WoW & WaR Instances)
True endgame RvR with frontiers. (not WaR Tiers)
While that is all mostly true, most of it has little to do with why a player picks a game or why a player stays with a game.
Once the number of crafting professions passes more than 3 or 4 most MMO players do not count and say, “I was thinking of trying out that new game but decided not to because I heard it only has 5 crafting professions . . . .†or “I know that I will love that new game because I heard it has 12 crafting professionsâ€. Sorry but no. Most people are more generic than that.
For most people it is not the number of crafting professions that is important but things like “I heard that the new games crafting was well integrated, well thought out, that the crafted items were valuable in the game and that a player could build a reputation as a great crafter in the game.â€
Almost no one looks at a games crafting and even cares much about how many professions.
It is the same with the number of races. After players hear there are a 'bunch' and that many of the 'bunch' are fun to play, no one really cares if there are 12 races, 5 races or 18 races.
What is important to the prospective player is the “fun†report they get from others, not the report about numbers of races or the number of classes or the number of. . . . . .
Also, though the statements “True battlegrounds (not WoW & WaR Instances)†and “True endgame RvR with frontiers. (not WaR Tiers)†are true and help the game of DAoC stand apart from other games, if we look at what attracts and what keeps players playing other popular games, those two things are not what makes for a great subscriber base.
Little of what you posted as important/significant for DAoC is truly important/significant to the typical MMO player. All the typical player is concerned with is, “it is a fun game to play†or “the game (or game company) just pisses me off†but not “that game has 5/12/18/44 <insert item>â€.
