Hate to tell you this but you're about 4 years too late to have any fun on Mordred.
Why's that? Is the server no longer up? Where should I head?
It's there. It just has like 7 players on during prime time.

It's funny, every time people come asking for a class that doesn't require a buffbot, no one ever recommends playing a cleric/druid/shaman.
Heretic or Vamp is going to be the easiest for you to learn while being the most effective. Friars have always been practically the best dueling class in the game (unless you're fighting a vamp or an assassin who carries around more than one disease poison), but outside of that they're pretty bad.
Heretics are an incredibly powerful and straightforward class that can fill a variety of roles without having to change their spec.
Vamps are just straight overpowered.

I mean that is and always has been true. Back in the day a Friar with everything up was stupidly powerful in duels, and nowadays the new styles are fairly cheese.
I hear they're decent as rejuv healers as well, I've seen it done with some success but never experimented with it myself.
Long story short, don't play a friar.

Seen way too many Friars do way too much solo vs multiple enemies and have way too much utility for groups etc. to agree with this but o well
Not to metion their PvE capabilities, possibly the best unbotted pve class, at least on alb.

well somebody who knows what theyre doing can wreck multiple bads all day, especially with self heals and high parry/evade/abs and heal procs. their utility to groups is limited to 4s stun, side-snare, enh buffs and spec heals and hot. in certain setups they can be viable though a second cleric adds better support through shears insta-heals and pr. are rejuv friars viable? yes, we've already seen that. they require a more specific setup than 2 cleric group does aka less utility.
they are the best solo pve class for alb though you have to remember daoc is primarily a pvp game and it does damn well at that.

a friar with high staff in a group is pretty much useless no stoic or det iirc no rear snare no anytime stun lack luster damage. no reason not to get a merc or arms in there instead.
but yea rejuv friars are pretty nice to have in grps. 2ndary resists high singles constant hot, can self peel with st and their rr5. BG i suppose. in a grp rejuv friar or dont bother picking them up-
and solo isnt really a good measuring stick, they are good 1v1 due to shears hots high evade what was stated before, but that was also true when you could poison staves. non speed or stealth classes will also have it rough out in the open
and theres always going to be a grp of baddies trying to zerg down lesser numbers
are maulers the best class simply because from time to time i kill a terrible 5 man after blowing everything? not really just some situations are better suited for certain classes.
rejuv friar is pretty boring to play, just refresh HoT and drop single targets. i would much rather play my rejuv tic. slam and snare for peels bane for intruppts, big damage when assisting, and back up heals leaves you alot to do in an 8v8. and solo a slam tic is pretty beast as well. once you get rr5 you will be greatly appreciated in grps.

Druid, with the recent changes you don't have to go too high in Nature to be effective. So if you get a decent Tri-spec you can do very well.
The only minor issue is that to be really really effective you need to get the disease CL ability, so at lower levels without the disease you will have to rely on your pets CC, which is easy to macro /s Frenzy etc...
Anyway on my solo druid I have beaten every class in the game, none really give me any trouble (though a sorc or minst with a pet is a headache) but against the common solo classes mentioned in this thread you will be able to easily dominate them.
