Hi folks,
I'll keep this short.
I'm downloading the trial and only once play DAoC for about a year but right when it was released. Hoping this will hold be over until Play to Crush goes live (SB Emu). Very excited to get in on some Mordred action!
Which classes are competitive in PvP but do not require a buff bot? I prefer a melee class and like the Midgard/Albion realms, but am willing to try anything. I would also prefer something that is competitive in 1v1/small scale PvP (although I am aware that this is a RvR game and small scale may not be that common).

P.S. - Can you even compete without a buff bot? Are there any servers that don't allow buff bots? If not, do you need 2 machines or can you just run 2 instances on 1 box? I'm definitely not a big fan of buff bots, and dismissed returning to DAoC a year or 2 ago when I learned how prevalent it is. However, I would consider jumping on the bandwagon if you need one in order to enjoy PvP in DAoC.

Hate to tell you this but you're about 4 years too late to have any fun on Mordred.

Really I don't see how all of you old players don't get the 411 on whats going on.
There is only ONE active cluster. Yes just ONE. Please spread the word to all the others than plan to come back.
The only active cluster is YWAIN 1 - 10

Thanks the info. Not sure how you expect people new to DAoC to magically know this stuff... People are supposed to keep up with the '411' on DAoC when they don't even play? Interesting thought process.
Still looking for class advice, thanks in advance!

but as far as class that does not need a buff bot for pvp/rvr go with a battle Friar imo, or a Tic

Scout would be first priority. Then Hunter, Ranger. Heretic, then Vampiir. If you purchased the 125 buffs, you could manage to survive if you played a caster. Just be sure to know all of your utility, since you're not capped.

You can purchase buffs with gold or bounty points now in the frontiers. They are not 100% of buff bot buffs, but not so bad that you can not compete with them. If you are truly soloing though, it is best to have a buff bot account, or a friend to buff you, or play a class that does not need buffs such as mentioned above (friar, tic, vamp, warden) for melee.
If you are going to small man, then chances are someone will have a buff bot that you are running with. You can run two accounts from one computer (legally). There is no setup needed for it. Just launch the program twice.
If you have any old toons left, you can transfer them to Ywain and buy a decent template with bounty points (can use them for Master Levels, artifacts, and high end items). Getting templated to a decent point is pretty easy now. Only Master Level 10 gear is expensive and semi-tough to get.
