I feel the game(which I just returned to for the umpteenth time) has gotten even more quiet than I remember it. Maybe I need to joined a guild that's in a great alliance...but...ask advice questions...85% of the time you will not get a response(in Hibland,70% in Albland)...talk on the incoming guild channel you may as well be talking to yourself.
I'm far from the social person but it is an element that adds another significant element.Since I have been kind of iffy on how long I will stay I've not joined or tried to joining a guild.....so I play a l o n e. Is this just me ? Your thought ?

I've quit, came back numerous times too since launch.
Last time I quit was 2007, then came back in about Feb last year to find the whole Ywain thing. Did my transfers on 3 accounts and hung out for about 4-5 months before quitting due to maintenance mode, x-realming, etc.
Like you, I can be a loner but do reach out. Found the same thing. It's a common "complaint" around here. In-game community being in a poor state. Many attribute it to x-realming/games age.
I didn't ever join a guild either. Researched them some. I was on Hib only. Had I joined one, I'm sure the experience would have been better though. If I recall, Eberbracca (Sp?) on these forums sounded like she was in a good guild (Hib).

That is one on the bigger reasons of why I left. If you are not in a guild and using vent, etc. you will not be able to find anyone to talk to. Newbie guild usually had around 100 people in it, yet every time I talked into it I was met with silence. Region is pretty useless too...Part of the fun of the game was seeing discussions and joining in once in a while. Pretty much the only chat I saw was RvR related in NF.

i just came back after a very long time, i was alwasy a hib mainly, dablbed a char here and there in mid though.

so i rolled a hib, then a mid, then a alb through the 'tutorial zone quests'. all were during later evening hours (8 to midnight EST or there about)

the differences blew my mind.
hib was my first, 3 people in the starter guild. i said 1 thing, no response, so i forgot about it. saw maybe 2 questions in /advice that never got answered(maybe in tells), and not a single broadcast message did i see. absolutely no social aspect for the first couple hours of a new players game life.

mid, not much better. a couple more in starter guild, maybe 6 max at a time. noone spoke in it, same deal with advice. did see a couple region chats of one guy asking about a tutorial quest, and another asking for a group for that 'find comrades' quest but thats about it.

so im thinking. im probably alone until at least thid where i can meet some people...against my better judgement i tried alb.

about 25 players in starter guild. i asked a question about the class i picked because alb is the one realm i never played and didnt remember a few things about their classes. answered nicely enough, others were talking the rest of my time online. i couldn't even read all the region chat. advice questions were anwered rebuffed etc.

now i don't know if theres just that many more people in alb, them having relics, if they are just friendlier, if the other realms are more 'serious' and quit starter guilds and tut zones and get plvl'd by their friends/alts or whatever..

but it seems to me as a new player with not much (a few hibs on this acct with a little cash and probably below average gear, a 1000+ tailor/sc'er, enough cast to level up another craft or 2, get a house and equip it)..it would be dumb of me to roll anywhere except alb right now because of that social interaction factor.

I don't know either. I have moved from Alb to Hib and noticed FAR less response to any /advice question of noobie guild question when in Hibland

WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO HAVE A REALM WIDE SERIES OF CHANNELS.....SOME FOR FIGHTING...SOME SOCIAL ? SOME CRAFTING etc.

I was never very social from the get go, only joined groups because you had to and also only had one account the first couple years. Now you can do just about anything with 2 accounts so you don't need to talk to people and a lot of the people that still run in groups are usually people that have known each other either IRL or in game for some time. I played Hib/Mid and, just before I last quit, Alb for a few weeks. I noticed the complete opposite then, Hib chat was always full of blathering and people asking questions, usually getting an answer and the odd smart ass response. Mid was crickets, always has been even early on, one of the reasons I stopped playing there, couldn't get anything done. Aln seemed pretty quiet for having the most pop and most of what I heard bordered on the moronic, mostly people whining about how either Hib or Mids cheat. Best one was some guy who said Hibs hacked because is ram kept missing the door. That was classic.

If region is quiet now it could be tempting to come back, I hated it when they added global channels and I had to listen to all the idiots flex their epeens. I put it on ignore but then being a solo player I missed a lot of stuff I would have like to have known.

Newbie guild consists mostly of new toons being PL'd by alts. So it's not like anyone is actually looking at the new toon's screen to see you talking in newbie guild.

/Region? When someone asks a question in /reg, I answer it if I know the answer, but I won't bother to toss in an "I have no idea" response that would serve primarily to annoy people.

Ditto /advice channel.

Keep in mind that a LOT of people make extensive use of instances, which means they won't see you /region. And that a large chunk of any people /who shows are bots and not going to respond to anything you say.

Plus there's the whole "I'm spamming PBAE and anything you say in /reg will only be visible on my screen for 0.05 seconds before it scrolls off" thing.

I play in the BG's since I loathe the idea of having to equip my characters in this Atlantis world, where if you aren't templated and have all the right Atlantise equipment you can't compete. At any given time ther may be 30 real players in the bg. Do you think they will answer a spec question ? % * )! NO ! if you send a tell directly to a person...the vast majority do not answer.

I doubt that's the real reason considering how easy it is to get anything from ToA. Also you're not going to be able to compete very well ion the BG's if you're not templated either considering most of the toons that stay there have close to perfect temps.
