Hello,

My brother and I are returning to DAOC after a 2 year break (actually we did a short stint a year ago but left for a reason I will shortly explain). We played since release until Warhammer Online came out, and have since bounced back and forth between the two games.

What drove us away from DAOC last year was the changes to obtaining TOA arties, MLs, and dragon armor. When we returned to the game, I quickly noticed that my gear was slightly underpar. I researched for all types of templates and it seems the new FOTM was a dragon armor, MP, artifact blend (including some necklace that can only be obtained a couple times a year... ).

As hard as I tried I could not get any clear answers on the when, where, how to on obtaining dragon pieces and doing the quest line. Can it be soloed? Can it be duoed? Is it even possible to do anymore? Would others do it with me? Where can I get some good answers on a template? etc.

I guess my question is: Can someone point me to the direction to find out how my brother and I can begin updating our armor? Any place that I can get a refresher course on atlantean glass, BP's, and dragon scales etc?

And can anyone comment on the status of the servers and general state of the game?

I am about to reinstall, but would like the comfort in knowing that my questions have a clear answer so we have a direction to work in, and can quickly get my toons up to date.

I had to make a new account because I was banned from VN boards many years ago lol.

Thanks!

ML10 items are high in demand these days. In particular, the weapons that proc a "pet" for a short duration. ML10 torso and legs are popular too. When you equip ML10 torso+legs+weapon you automatically summon an ML10 cloak which is pretty good depending on class.

Dragonslayer armor is easy to get because it can be bought with scale. The quests are still available, but the vast majority of players simply buy them. Dragonslayer armor is mostly used for the reactive procs (heal + abla). Any loot dropped by the dragon can be bought too (from a merchant in the capital).

Artifacts are still very popular. They can be bought either with Bounty Points or Atlantean glass. Actual raids are very rare nowadays.

There are a few seasonal items that are pretty good, but nothing you can't live without.

edit: oh, and the action is still good. Generally, things are a little more zergy than they used to be.

I appreciate the response. Tell me one thing though, how do I obtain dragon scales?

I believe the other "currencies" can be obtained strictly through RvR? (glass etc)

To answer everything as clearly as possible to eliminate all question; here is what you probably need to know:

All of the servers have been merged into 1 (Boss, Kill, Devon) called Ywain. Action is pretty solid and there's generally something to do at all times. The solo game's a bit lacking, but mind you, you're coming back with a brother; and thus will be unaffected by that.

Templating is still a massive mix of items, you were correct there. However, it's now more than Dragon, Arties, Crafted, there is also ML10 armor (Chest, leggings, Belt) and Weapons. When building a template, most people use a mix of all of these:
Dragon Items: The items from dragons generally have high utility, the chest pieces are generally decent but I mostly use dragon items for my Jewelery. Everything dragon now-a-days can be bought (apart from the mythirian, but that's a total different ball game) using dragon scales. Dragon scales are obtained from killing monsters that are of the "dragon" variety.

These are:
- Anything in your realms dragon zone (Sheeroe, Dartmoor & Malmohus)
- Anything in your realms dragon SI dungeon (Trollheim, Crystal Cave (Via Avalon) & Formor)
- Some monsters in Celestius (ML10 area)
- Drakorans in the Labyrinth

Artifacts: People use these for the /use more-so then general utility (EDS excluded), where as templating; certain artifacts become must-have items. Artifacts can be obtained in three ways.

These are:
- Doing the artifact's related quest (no one does anymore), which entails running around ToA killing random things that do random things.
- Killing players and obtaining bounty points, which can be used to buy artifact credit AND the required books
- Killing ToA monsters and obtaining Atlantean Glass. Which can be used like BPs (most humanoid mobs will drop ~10 glass per, some mobs drop +200.

ML10: This is something that has recently been added to the game. ML10 items generally carry high ToA utility (Big caps, AF bonuses, melee/casting speed, dmg, etc). Depending on the realm, these items can be VERY expensive to buy, especially for the ones, as a previous posted mentioned, that have a proc that summons a pet that damages the opponent. There is only one way to obtain ML10 items, apart form buying them and that is going to Celestius and joining a large raid group (and praying you /random 100 well).

Crafted: Generally Head, Hands or Feet in a template. Used to fill in holes needed for the template to work.

Scales have a chance to drop from any mob in the dragon zone.

Glass drops from a lot of mobs in ToA. Generally, boss mobs (related to master levels) and any kind of mob that is human-like.

However, both glass and scales are tradable so I would recommend to farm money in whatever way you are most effective (ie. with the classes available to you) and then buy the scales/glass you need from other players in housing. You don't want to spend hours farming something (glass/scale) with a character/class that isn't good at it.

Negative, use the VN boards as a starting point (most are full solo templates, and thus you won't need to use them fully) and start making your own.

Gearbunny is a great tool for template making.

I just want to say to Vlad: I followed your leveling guide you posted in my thread and got to 50 in 3-4 days. Now that I'm 50 and looking to build a template, you have once again been a great help. You are awesome, thank you.
