Speed 6 is a great idea for a duo. Starts you off with an advantage. Considering that, a skald/shaman combo is great. Your just not going to have your skald beat anyone down very fast. Not anyone worth their salt anyway. Foregoing speed six, you would have better success with a skald/healer combo. Speed 5, but the healer has crowd control, make sure he specs a little bit of aug for celerity, and then your skald will put the beat down on anyone. And even the healer can fight a bit.

Your minst/sorc combo is already the best for alb. I'm sure that's an argument waiting to happen. But you have speed 5, crowd control, ranged nuke dps, and the minst can melee in a pinch, certainly better than a sorc, perhaps not as well as a skald.

Hib?
heck, what can't you do with a bard/anyclass? I'd say hib has the best means to put together the toughest duo. The bard has speed 5, heals, and crowd control. Ok, perhaps a bard/warden would be the hardest to kill, but wouldn't kill much themselves. But a bard and any nuke dps class, or a bard and any melee dps class would do fine.

And none of these classes would be turned down for an 8man.

skald/sham imo. can kite all you want and sham is less dependent on skald for peels, etc.

I can't speak for the OP of course, but in general the perception that support classes do nothing once the buffs are delivered is the result of a generation of players who are unable to see what a force multiplier the right support class can be while still retaining an active role. Its the result of the requirement to have a buffbot in this game - when all you see are buffbots you naturally start to assume that's the only role they can play.

My recommendations:

Bard / Hero
Skald / Valk
Sorc / Cleric

My wife and I played Bard/Hero for a long time. The only duo from other realms that could consistently give us trouble was Skald/Valk, because Valks are ridiculous. That fight is an endurance match, with a lot of movement. High realm rank Sorc/Cleric teams could sometimes be trouble, dependent on tricks & initiative.

Even before that we ran a Friar/Ice wiz duo, which was tons of fun (and much faster killing) than the Hibs. But, the time has long past when you could get away with a stationary team like that. The bridge redesign and death of small group traffic around POC's made that playstyle obsolete; today your only choice for not being rolled all the time is to have speed.

By your definitions of what classes don't have anything to do in fights it seems like you plan on killing a lot of solos, and not much else.

Only restrictions would be no bard, cleric, shaman, or healer, because neither of us like standing there while the other fights.

Have you actually played any of those classes? None of them just stand there in a duo situation, mate.

bard and healer do they ahve no dps capabilities so after cc/disease/dehaste all he can do is heal and prekite.

Hi2U interrupts.

Do ppl really not play the classes to their full potential anymore?

yes because interrupts deal damage

No, they prevent dmg being done or prevent dmg done being healed.
Interrupts > 1 extra dmg dealer.
