It's a feature similar to arrows not being able to be evaded.

yeah
remember the good old days?
Despite being on the tank WS table for their bow spec, you could evade an archers critshot (which counted as unstyled attacks) stay stealthed and perf his face off?

Yes, I remember. You act surprised that an arrow can be evaded. Not surprising though since archers think they should do caster damage from range and melee like a tank.
The really sad part though is that the evading arrows thing came about when they changed the code and couldn't get it to work with the magic system. Just a failure on Mythic's part to figure their own game mechanics out. Then like everything else it just turns into a feature. "Working as intended."

It takes a lot of nails to build a crib, but just one screw to fill it.
Everywhere is walking distance if you have enough time.

You just have to deal with the lag abuse from your opponents, doing the same thing as it is recognized as somekind of "skill". So i advise you just go and strafe, and abuse run throughs. If you want to remain defensive about that your best bet is to strafe while going backwards, it avoids most run-throughs or side-styles if you're going on the adequate side(which you can usually anticipate, not all lag abusers are experts at it).

When you'll feel you have mastered these, make a video. Accelerate it a bit, watch it. It it's good enough you'll go seasick, that'll be a good time for posting it on these boards. After you've made a topic, wait for posters to praise your mad skills.
