Hiya folks,

I've been gone since ToA came out and i'm looking to come back, what is leveling like these days? Is it just mob grinding like before or are there quests now for leveling? Also, whats the game like for a solo player? I play odd hours because of work so most of my time will be playing solo.

Thanks!

An archer might fit your requirements, very easy to level, self buffs and fairly decent solo class, and if you fancy a bit of siege fun they are grand there also.
Quest wise, there are staggered NPCs in the capitals and at frontier keeps that give quick and easy quests (Hibernian captain, lieutenant etc )
And ofc, there are still task dungeons and 'new' repeatable quests once you get closer to the lvl50 mark.

Yeah if you are considering coming back but don't want to pay for a second account to have a buffbot running, then seriously consider an archer type. I am loving my Hunter so far, and he is quite effective on the PvE side for farming scales, glass, doing TDs etc due to the self buffs.
Leveling is stupidly fast now, you should have very little trouble leveling up - I suggest you consider doing Task Dungeons for a lot of that which is very grindy but will also get you decent experience and cash with relatively little risk. You can do better doing the quests in the BGs etc, of course, but you will also get ganked more there. I like TDs overall.

You will need to template your character - meaning equip them with the right combination of items (some very very expensive) to ensure you get the max bonuses possible from items. You will need Champion Levels and Master Levels if you haven't done them. Champion levels went fairly fast for me with my hunter, the MLs are going to take a lot of time. Unless you have money to buy the glass to complete the MLs (you don't need to do any TOA encounters or any of the irritating crap that the original TOA introduced to the game). You can just buy the Master level credits, buy the scrolls required for artifacts and buy the artifacts themselves for glass that drops off of TOA mobs. Tons of glass. This too is grindy, very.

Other than that its been a lot of fun so far. I am still working on my MLs before i really tackle trying out RvR.

If you're starting fresh from lvl 1, do the tutorial till level 10. Stupidly easy quests, that give you gear.
the quests take very little time (most), and you'll be level 8-9 in about an hr or so.

Get to level 10, and go to the battlegrounds. Starting at level 10 (someone correct me if Im off), the BG's
have NPC's inside the portal keep that offer repeatable kill task quests, and you'll level ridiculously fast
through each BG that gives you these quests.

I believe all BG's have these quests to 40ish now Maybe they are not in Thidranki (20-24) and
Molvik (35-39).

Anyhow, as the above stated, leveling is easy now. Even gear is very easy to get now, with only the rarest
Astral items being expensive.

any class except healers should be able to level quickly, but archers are definitely king of the hill on leveling,
being better than necros (for solo leveling).

Thanks for the response everyone, I think i'll take your advice and go with a Hib Archer type, unless a different faction would be better?

Thanks!

Rangers are probably the worst archer especially if you can't dish out the money for good temp

Which faction/archer type do you recommend? Quick question as well, while I was trying the Ranger I noticed that it would not let me use any of my bow skills even though I had a bow equipped, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Though there is some debate among archers, it basically breaks down
like this:
If you learn to play your Scout well, it's Scout > Hunter > Ranger.
If you learn to play your Hunter well, its Hunter > Scout > Ranger.
If you learn to play your Ranger well, its Hunter > Scout > Ranger.

Seriously though, any of the three can be fun. I've a friend who's
plays all three, has achieved significant RR as a solo artist, and is
currently enjoying his ranger.

Might be that your bow is in the Ranged slot, but that doesn't mean it's equipped. You still have to switch to use your bow. My default button for switching to ranged is "b" button. You can also drag the bow to your quickbar, and then hit that number to switch, iirc. Once bow is active, you'll be able to use archery spells/arrow skills.

To be honest Rangers Only Sucked because their dual weild was nerfed down. Now that their Dual weild is back on top their melee skills are actully pretty good. I would put scout on the bottom since their slam is crap now.
