DAOC 10 Year Anniversary - Fresh Server?
I came back for the Classic servers, played for a few months then some other MMO caught my eye and I played that for a bit instead. TOA and NF were why I left in the first place.
I came back recently to discover the Classic servers were gone and reluctantly started playing again. I am enjoying playing the game, but the reality is I have to spend an inordinate amount of time farming. Why? Well because you absolutely must have Champion Levels (done now), Master Levels (ML 3 atm) and a whackload of plats to participate in RvR as anything other than a corpse. I am not paying for a second account, so farming is harder for me. I play at odd hours because I work graveyards, so grouping is rare as most of my guild are not on, or I am only playing for a short period. NF is horrid in my opinion and I would welcome OF back any time, or at least some sort of hybrid between the two (OF Maps, with Agramon and simpler keeps or something).
ANYTHING that takes TOA out of the game is worth the effort in my opinion. Even though they have made it somewhat trivial to get your MLs the amount of cash required is frightening. Templating your character is frightening. The most efficient way for me to raise money so far has proven to be doing TDs. I estimate that when I am done another 88 of those, I will be done getting my MLs - on one character. I have 5 more 50's still to go.
So I came back 2 months ago and at my current rate will be done getting my first character ready for active RvR in another 3-4 months. In a year I may have 3 RvR worthy characters. I will do the work to get there, but its a very stupid system to face a new player with. If there is a reason why folks show up and then leave I bet a large part of it is simply the apparent workload required to be an active participant in RvR that has a possibility of living more than a few seconds when the fight starts.
I don't know if a fresh server would help, but a version of this game that kept the essential flavour of the game but avoid the many many barriers to participation faced by a prospective new player would be a great start IMHO.

Consider seriously doing your farming in Deep Volcanus. You get Glass from the mobs faster than you get plat to buy Glass in TD's.

Yep, I have been hunting in Thusia Nesos from time to time. I can get the glass there with some effectiveness, but as a hunter I can do a TD in very short order (maybe 10-12 mins?), so its debatable which is faster. TDs I can stop and take a break easily, the glass hunting not as much When I can find glass fairly cheaply I buy it, when I can't I go hunt it myself. I need another 20000 glass or so, so its going to take time either way...

Let me say I have a lot of toons with good wealth but I am opposed to new server not because ill lose that, but beacsue the way the game is now, its very easy to get to end and geaer up for pvp, so it's just not necessary at all. I think the game is relatively noobie friendly, if they practice in the bg's and do some readin.

*shakes head* You're doing it wrong.
Let me ask you a question. Would you pay me a one-time fee of $15 if I showed you how to get ML10, CL10 and lots of cash in a fraction of the time and effort you just described above?
In any case, here is a freeby for ya: If you're farming glass, you're doing it wrong. Don't ever farm glass. Most worthless currency in the game, worse than gold imo.
Step 1: do this one time: level a weaponcrafter. Get to 1k skill, and make sure your secondary skills are all 1k. (you can salvage with lower skill, but don't be a bish, just get lgm, trust me). Leveling to LGM will take 10-12 hours tops. It's a pain, but I promise no one hates crafting more than I do, and I have multiple salvagers across all three realms.
Step 2: Now, instead of farming nearly worthless glass, go farm afrits. You'll consistently get 300-500 glass per run. More importantly they also drop metal, leather, cloth, and wood items. Salvage everything. Don't be a wuss, salvage it all. Once your vaults are full, then you can trinket the metal and wood. Sell the raw cloth and leather. You will make about 5-7p per hour with this method.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 until you have everything you need.
If you'd like to know how to triple or quadruple that take in as little as 20 minutes, you'll have to send me $15
