Yes, it is far easer to update the text and links on an old site than it is to completely build a new site. Even people that can't build web sites can usually modify/update existing text and update links.

If they are really tight on resources it is very strange that they would build a new site and just scrap the old site.

Apparently Mythic blocked the Wayback Machine from indexing the site, so you can't even look up the old FAQs and guides.

Personally, I suspect they had a HD failure and discovered the backups were useless or something like that. No one ever really tests backups in most companies - if they even have the wits to do them. Either that or they got hacked and don't trust any of the content/code on the original webserver. I can't believe that any company the size of EA or even Mythic could be stupid enough and unprofessional enough to put up a broken version of their website that is a work in progress as they have, unless forced to do so. Of course being a company the last thing they can do is admit that something bad happened. Why, it might wreck Mythics reputation with its customers

The current situation with the website is nothing less than a huge glowing finger pointed at the subscribers to this game by EA. The fact that they won't talk about it, and apparently can't be bothered to fix it, is just EA in effect telling us all to go **** ourselves, they don't care at all. The information on the web concerning this game is so out of date in many cases that the website is absolutely essential. Things like mapalot are absolutely essential. Yet nothing is being done apparently. Maybe they spent the budget for fixing the website on a box of donuts.

I dunno who they have working on the website, but its gotta be some unpaid intern or the boss's nephew-who-can't-be-fired who saw a webpage once, but has no skills. Its not even a particularly nice design, aside from the fact that they put it up live when only 1% of the website is actually working.

Of course EA has no customer skills, and Mythic has a terrible reputation in that area as well. I remember the steady stream of programmers who worked for EA Sports in Vancouver. They would hire someone, burn them out in a year or two then sack them and hire the next idiot. People competed to get the coveted EA programmers jacket. I knew 2 folks who worked for EA there and they both left because they got offended by the corporate climate.

The new site was published with the 10th year producer's comments. Perhaps they hoped the new website and wiki would make former and returning players believe that Mythic is rejuvenated and ready for more changes.

Instead, the hasty decisions and poor implementation behind the new website indicate very real problems with project management and inability of Bioware to follow through with the simplest actions. The new website is nothing more than a blog and they clearly did not research customers' needs before starting the project. But it's also possible that Bioware changed the website into a simple blog to reduce server costs.
