Hi DAOC community!

I started playing DAOC pre-SI when I was only a teenager. Needless to say, I cut class a lot during high school to RVR and raid SIDI/DF. During college, I was disciplined enough to resist my urge to play most of the time. I reactivated to play a few times, but it was never really the same as old DAOC. Without the community, realm pride, and sense of adventure...the grind was not worth the effort. Perhaps it's because the game is all figured out and that sense of excitement is lost. It seems that being a noobie was precisely the best part of playing this game. The sense of community and realm pride was amazing. I distinctively recall certain realm-mates that helped me level simply because I asked. Grinding in Barrows was lengthy, time-consuming, but also an intricate part of the game. Armed with the knowledge of power-leveling, it's difficult to fathom the idea of grinding for 6 hours to gain 1 bubble of xp. Again, the recurring theme of "noobieness" made the game for me.

I am considering reactivating to play in the BGs because that represents to me...the closest recreation of old daoc. No TOA/cata/whatever it out now. Pure and simple, BGs allow for a pure environment that tests your skills as a player, rather than the gear you bought with IRL money.

What's the game like now-a-days? What's new? Good..bad? Anything..?

DAoC now is very similar to a 35 year male who with episodes of headache, sweating, palpitation and anxiety; blood pressure of 170/110; and elevated 24 hour urinary catecholamines and metanephrines.

It's not worth risking your grades and thus career because med school requires most students to study about 70 hours per week.

Thanks for the responses. I'm thinking that if I do decide to play again, it will be casually...whatever that means. Since I played thid during my reactivations...I had fun and was able to turn off the game after a couple hours.

Is there any word on origins?

Origins was a non-viable pregnancy due to gestational trophoblastic disease. EA aborted the fetus at 16 weeks but by that time the choriocarcinoma has spread to the patient. Chemotherapy was contraindicated due to lack of funds and manpower. Patient now presents cerebral edema and prognosis is poor.

Do the med school grind instead of the DAOC one

That said, the leveling grind is pretty minimal now, but its been replaced with the grind to get the plats to buy the equipment you need to be on par with everyone else - so its really just a different grind now

BGs are fun, Thidranki is where you want to go I expect, although even there people template their characters heavily, its just easier to do and cheaper.

The game is still fun enough, but its changed entirely. Realm Pride is completely gone I suspect, much of the playerbase probably doesn't even know what the term means sadly

Realm Pride is a social group of Realms which often wander the African veldt.

DAOC is closed. Go live your life in the real world. In your free time, flirt with some cute future trophy wives. Or get a job, since you'll spend the next 20 years paying off your student loans.

Seriously, give up DAOC - its not worth it. At least that's what I'd do if in your situation.

If you are able to manage your time online - limited to a certain time frame then you'd be fine. It does, if you are able to be totally engrossed, give the mind an escape from the stress otherwise present since you're focus in entirely diverted.
