Lakobaath posted: Apparently some of you idiots cant grasp it. You tell people so and so item is worth so much. They'll boost those prices. People will then be out of the best gear in the game because so and so wants 50p for a Stone Bone Choker. Then that person who doesn't have thousands of plat and is just starting out is left with nothing really. Can't compete in rvr because they dont have good gear or a good templates. So yes, it is greedy [moderated for baiting].
Try this, go on the boards and in the game and spam that all pots on the CMs should be 1 plat. Get all your friends and guild mates to spam it too. See how much of a change that has on the price of pots.
Telling players that a choker should be 50p will not cause the price to be 50 p unless 50p is what the buyers are willing to pay. If most will not pay 50p then others will bring the price down by underselling/undercutting. Telling others what you think the price should be can sometimes cause minor price swings but there are always those who under cut the market and bring prices to an equilibrium, that is the way it has always been.
Also, players have alternatives. They do not have to spend the asked amount, they can always go out and get the items (farm the items).

not always true,
prices in eve online have had very little inflation over the years, and some items are actualy cheaper today then they were 3 years ago
Camelot is the absolute worst i've ever seen for MMO-inflation... the prices of items is completely out of control...
and its because the influx of npc generated coin(this is coin from mob drops, quests and stuff) has consistantly gone upwards in the game, while money sinks like rent, item repair and such have either stayed the same or gone down...
this causes more and more coin to enter the realm and it never leaves, it just circulates from player to player.

I appreciate all the perspectives on this, but it really boils down to one single point:
Dead CM's are misleading people to price their wares below FAIR MARKET VALUE. That is not debatable. Its a fact. If you remove the dead CMs, then prices will be free to float wherever the market dictates. I'm merely highlighting the fact that prices are inadvertently being held under water, unable to float freely based on the "normal balance of market forces." Eliminate the dead CM's, you eliminate the entire issue.
I don't want to turn this into an economics debate. I think we all agree, at least generally, that prices fluctuate based on supply and demand, which can be impacted by how easy certain things are exchangeable, farmable, etc. I think we can also agree that due to competition, as supply increases, prices trend downward. That's how it should be, agreed? Well, that's the point - it's not that way right now.
Have I made money off the current situation? Yes I have. It's how I build up plats for my excessive templating and rerolls. Do I stand to make more money if prices go up? Of course! It was admitted in my second post and I've said it over and over since. Is that my motivation for posting this in the first place? Duh!
All I want is for the price on these items to be free to float. I know for a fact that prices on some items are pegged at a price that is below demand. I've positioned myself to profit even more if the peg is ever removed. Its not a secret, I have no hidden agenda. I am just in a great position to see the market correction on these items.
But to accuse me and others of being disingenuous is not correct either. By bringing the issue of dead CM's to light, I am helping people. If prices are being artificially pegged lower than demand would otherwise dictate, am I not increasing the bottom line of those sellers by bringing this to their attention? By bringing up the issue, do I not in some indirect way, add another straw to the camel's back that might force our new masters to fix this problem?
Well, that last one might be a little hopeful, but the point is this: No one is trying to gouge, steal, trick, or deceive; All I am trying to accomplish is to bring the issue to more people's attention, so that prices can stop being held under water and that prices can be free to bob up and down on the surface of the market's waters.
I really don't think any of you can disagree with a market free to go wherever the players want to take it. That's all I want. That's what I call fair market value.

what you realy mean is... where ever the SELLERS want to take it... because i'm sure if you ask the people needing those items they'd prefer the cheaper prices...
and you realize, that by, buying low, selling high... you are effectively kicking realm pride in the nuts...
because profiteering like that isnt helping your realm mates, its not helping get more people outfitted and ready for combat...
the guy that cant get a group because he doesnt have the proper template because the items were too expensive... cant get that group because of people being selfish and raising the prices of items, instead of helping there realm mates get equiped...
fair market value is difrent depend on wich end of the market your on, if you have the items, or an excess of coin, then your fine with high prices, but then theres the other half that dont have the excess coin... what they consider fair market value is completely difrent.

I said what I meant, thank you.
So let me get this straight...I ask for a true fair market price, and you call me greedy. But you indicate that its ok for people to pay LESS THAN FAIR MARKET PRICES...Just who is being greedy here?

You display incredible ignorance here if that's what you really believe. Fair market Value is not someone's perception. Its the area where buyer demand meets seller supply. Its not up to sellers; they have to offer a price the buyer will accept. And its not up to the "greedy" buyer, who if they had the choice, would get everything for free if they could, according to your reasoning.
Just accept the simple truth: Im not trying to trick anyone. There is a problem with dead merchants affecting prices. If the dead merchants were removed/disabled, the issue goes away. In this instance, prices will inevitably rise. But they won't rise above what's fair, and that's all Im asking for.

Why? Because you say so? People not only know about the "dead" CM thing they also intentionally set them up with the idea to trick people into selling for less. Does it work? I guess according to your premise it does.
You have no clue what FMV is. It's not even all that applicable to virtual goods so just stop with your sermons. Why do you even care about making a few extra plat here and there? You sell it off or something? [moderated for baiting]

Well, I wouldn't say it's the worst. Well, maybe. Are there a large amount of items that cost more than max plat yet? (have to pay max plat+ scales, sidi souls, etc)

yes you are greedy...
when i played, if i had an item, and someone mentioned they needed it.. i'd go fetch it and give it to them... for free...
because i believed in helping my side to win the battle, over my own personal greed.
and its selfish and greedy people that have killed realm pride in the game... people look at there own realm mates as enemies who will steal there ARPEES not as comrades in arms.
and price gouging other players just makes it harder for new or returning characters from getting out and competing.
alot of the posts on this board are bitching that prices are too high... then you post a thread saying prices need to be higher...
its completely retarded to think this post would have had a positive response.
