Ah i miss DAoC's old code. Never cared for no positionals and getting nuked thru buildings and hills in WoW. Would rather deal with the extra couple seconds it takes to kill the strafer than trying to kill 10million people that you could actually just program a bot to beat people with. Destro-bot failcraft!

The only part of the "standard LoS check" that is changed is sub-part that tests to see if the caster is looking in the right direction. (The facing component)

You run inside. I can't see you. (Door and Wall blocks LoS)

You run through me. I still can see you. (For this type of check only we ignore the caster's facing)

OK Here I got it.

You know there are single target spells in DAoC that do not require correct facing? Buffs I think for one. My bot can be parked facing a wall and when I come over he can cast buffs on me all day long without turning around.

That is an example of a friendly spell that has no facing check.

Say I act crazy in Thid and run around like a weirdo while my bot buffs me. I run behind my bot, I run through my bot. DAoC doesn't care. I still get buffed. No directional LoS check there? Getit?

bad example is bad...

buffs dont have ANY kind of los check, they will cast through walls.. its not a positional los check, its a complete lack of los checking...

problem is, i couldnt think of a single spell in game, that had a LOS check (weather a wall was in the way or not) but didnt have a positional component

as far as i know, all spells that require a LOS check are frontal arc only, i dont know of a single spell that will cast to the rear, but still be obstructed by objects

Yes. The whole not being able to swing at someone (note: swing, not hit... not hitting is normal if they can evade, parry, block, or you miss, etc.), is an easy to do exploit.

Just play in window mode, hold down a strafe button (Q or E by default), and just drag your window around your screen frantically.

You will be unhittable in melee combat, unless the person gets super lucky and their swing time happens to coincide with the moment they are facing you.

/stick and /face do NOT help

Your cheating sure as hell sounds like a lot of work, like the guy who spends more energy avoiding work than he would spend if he just friggen worked once in a while...btw, you can keep that arrow in the back of your head.

Don't know what that has to do with this thread, but there are tons of positions in WoW - Gouge, Backstab, Ambush, Garrotte to name a few.

Also, WoW has line of sight mechanics, which are much more functional than DAoC's (which are horendous).

So yeah - not sure wtf you're smoking.

ps - WoTLK and Cata sucked.

Holding down Q or E while dragging your mouse is a lot of work.

Yes, yes, and yes. It also doesn't have a stick or face command, which is a large component of this problem in DAoC.

Dealing with people who run through you and strafe non-stop is pretty damned easy: start walking backwards.
