GW has always been about earning titles and achievments rather than who has the best gear~

Should be good imo and I'm lookin forward to it

If SWKotOR is a big win and Wrath of Champions is a flop then expect significant restructuring to DAoC, UO, and War.

I've been predicting gloom and doom for DAoC only since 2008. So that's three years of me being wrong. Time and time again I've seen businesses (including a few of my own) on their last legs continue to totter along. Here's hoping at least in October they throw us some warm fuzzies.

GW devs deserve a bunch of credit for offering both the single player experience and multiplayer in one box.

Anyone here got $3.5 million to invest in DAoC2?

Good replies.. I sorta skipped GW altogether; I'll check the GW title/achievements though, might get me motivated for GW2.

I only see 2 other worthy PVP type game coming out in the near future.. Secret World & TOR. I know TOR will have PVP rewards, and the PVP doesn't look half bad judging from videos I've seen, we'll see I guess.

I played Quake and its successors for years without needing gear or RAs to motivate me. I look forward to playing a MMO where PvP isn't just another form of gear grind.

Med, you hit the nail right on the head.

There is pleasure for many in accomplishing something that required alot of work (grinding). There is pleasure for many in prevailing over a human opponent. Don't put stumbling blocks in front of either type of player. Simple thought; deep consequences.

There's no reason to PvP? Do people not play games for fun anymore?

No concrete PvP doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I think it's a sweet idea. Purely cosmetic rewards will still allow elitists to chest thump and will lessen the learning and difficulty curves for new players.

I love realm ranks as much as the next man and I wouldn't take them out of DAoC, but I don't see this as a bad thing at all. If the PvP is fun, then I'm going to play the game.

No pvp rewards sounds all well and good from a competetive standpoint but I'm sure you're gonna get loot from pve that makes you stronger than your opponent? Or does guild wars work completely different?

Erm, that's normal for proper pvp games

I can't believe people actually believe the rewards in daoc are any different to the rewards in wow/rift/war etc. The more you play, the more xyz you get which helps you play better, it's no different to the other grindfest games that are out there.

Sounds good to me, I can still stroke my epeen with titles (rather than a number in my paperdoll) and cool armour (rather than my realm rank above my head). Not really any different imo.

I think the most detrimental part of GW2's PvP ideas is the rotating cross-server RvR. It will leave out two important experiences: getting to know (and fear, hate, respect, etc) the players that you fight against, and having a distinct, identifiable enemy faction(s) to fight against. In DAoC, especially when the game was on the upswing years ago, many players gained name recognition, renown, and infamy with members of the opposing realm. Wen you saw certain enemy players you could either be so terrified that you ran away, so enraged that you hunted them down mercilessly, or respected them enough to ensure that you fought them fairly. Each realm also gained specific identities on each server and emotional connections to those identities. For me as a Hib, Mids were respectable but Albs were dirty zergers with all of the easy classes.

These two experiences are what give character to the fight that players are directed to engage in. Fighting a faceless enemy without definitive differences in faction 'culture' who gets recycled every two weeks may not appeal to many players, and even those who do get involved in the cross-server PvP might burn out quickly without those meaning-creating connections to the enemy.
