There are no PVP rewards in GW2. Only 'cosmetic' or title rewards. rofl.

That's one brilliant way to deal with envious or jealous people, by taking out ALL rewards from PVP. There's not going to be a reason to PVP, but hey, at least nobody's gonna whine about Gear or PVP bonuses.
Why sure, I want to pvp just so I can get 'Guild Wars 2's Most Uberest Killer' as my PVP title or perhaps have a new pink armor with no stats. hahahah. Sad.

Well it will disappoint those for whom PvP "wins" are all important. On the other hand it will solve the many problems of people whining because someone "stole" their RPs etc. Realm Points were a logical addition to this game, as were Realm Abilities but they also ruined this game in some ways. I don't expect many to agree with me on that mind you, but as someone who remembers fighting the enemy because they were the enemy and not because I could score more points, its not that bad a design decision. When they introduced RAs people went from playing the game to trying to engineer more points at the expense of others. We get complaints about people stealing from others etc. We got 8-mans, and now small-mans whose purpose is not to defeat the enemy but rather to farm them etc. We also have the current situation where all the RR5+ players are far superior to new players trying the game out, not because they are better but just because they played longer (some undoubtedly are better than a newbie of course, I expect a learning curve when I start a new game, but many are unbeatable to a 0 RR player. That's gotta be discouraging)
I think the GW2 design decision might result in a better experience, and will merely discourage a lot of the players whom I disliked playing with the most anyways.

Good points made, I guess this will appeal to many players for those specific reasons.
To me it looks like they're desperately trying to mimick the First Person Shooter experience in an MMO, by making their game purely about skills and not about stats at all. I still think MMOs should be about stats, to some extent anyways.
Would you play DAOC if you had no PVP rewards to look forward to? Except titles or new armor with 0 stat bonuses? Maybe the PVP armor rewards will look 'cute'..

Ummm... ever play GW1? They'd have pissed of way more people if they tried to change their system.
I'd prefer to play a game with all characters on an equal playing field with skill being the determining factor in who wins in PVP. GW was always supposed to be about skill, not grinding for gear or realm rank. How much does skill matter in a fight with a RR1 and a RR13?

Dude, seriously, more people love that sheet than there are peeps who love PvP. CoH/Cov and Champions - people would go bugfook over a new cape or hat.
Take my GF... please! She's not all hell-bent on PvP but when Champions made some costume PvP rewards she was in there fragging people left and right. I don't mean to sound sexist in this overly broad statement, but girls just love that crap. Love it to death. Love it so much they will pay MONEY for a virtual glove that glows with NO STATS. I, on the other hand, think it's ridiculous. Gloves are silly - cool semi-transparent capes with particle effects are where it's at.
I can't hammer on this idea enough. Artsy fartsy crap for characters sells and sells big.
So yeah, I'd play PvP - if it was a good PvP system - just to get crap. Other than that, just being to be able to see my name on a Leaderboard is enough. Heh, I got my animist on the Weekly Champions board once. I was so proud.
Here's hoping at least that GW2 turns out to be half decent.

instanced pvp sucks it. Their open world pvp of the whole 3 server fighting each other with all the same classes sounds lame to me as well. I hope Im wrong but I dont think Ill be into it.

In one sense GW2 will not compete with DAoC - it isn't a subscription based game.
People can - and will - buy it and play it as a one-off purchase.
They may even continue to play / subscribe to DAoC at the same time (this is not a GW2 and no other game decision).
The 'threat' to DAoC (WAR, WoW, Rift et. al) is that people may decide to give up, not buy, or not return to their subscription based game. Guild Wars is the ultimate fuel to the "is DAoC et. al." worth the subscription fee. What do you get for the monthly sub if ... beyond a broken web page?
GW1 - and its xpacs - were very sucessful selling in huge numbers. They were very polished - the business model after all was for zero support with no patches planned etc. so they couldn't afford bugs. (Yes there were some patches and even some free content but the basic model calls for zero support). If only all subscription based games would throw away the safety blanket of 'we can fix it later'.
Now will GW2 hurt DAoC - maybe a little directly, ditto WAR, but the main impact may be more in the challenge it poses to SWKotR. If it takes money away from SW then EA Bioware will 'suffer' and that will be what could impact DAoC and WAR. Why should people pay a monthly sub (+ microtransactions it seems).
(Interesting recent article on the F2P being superceded by fremium games on Gamasutra as well).
