Very noobish questions
Coming back to DAOC with a few vets and a couple of folks who have never played the game before. We're fumbling along OK except for one thing...there's lots of template info around for level 50 characters, but we am having a hard time finding leveling specs for various classes. These boards appear to be the main place to get DAOC information, and even the class boards seem to be focused on level 50 templates.
Since all of us are leveling from scratch at the moment and none of us remember much of anything (I can't believe how hard it is and how much I have forgotten, lol!), we are sort of flailing. Can anyone point me in the direction of info about leveling specs? It'd be greatly appreciated.
Also, I am assuming that buffbots are still a requirement?

Because leveling is so quick now, a day or two to hit 50, most do not worry much about a lower level template unless it is for a specific BG.
Castors do not really need a leveling template just a good focus staff and your trainer will give you that as you level up.
Tanks need good gear but it will be hard to get full sets until you have a farming toon or unless you can get a guild that will support your toons as you level. Some times you will find players that will give out gold that you can use to help support your characters while you level up.
Farming Aurulite while you level, and then using the Aurulite for gear or selling it for gold, can help in keeping your characters in gear.
There is still some info about lower level templates on the profession boards
but it does take a lot of digging to find what you may need.
This leveling guide may help a bit, not for gear but just for leveling.

How long you have been gone makes a big dif in the kind of suggetions we need to give. Pre Cat? Left just around TOA? Left after DR? Left after LotM? Left after NF? before NF? etc. . . .
It all makes a huge dif in what you already know and makes a dif in how big a book we need to write for you.

It's really difficult to send you to a page that has all info you require.
Here's the vaults guides: Camelot Vault Guides.
You'd also be well off just doing google searches for the classes; chances are that someone, at sometime; had a similar question and posted it on one of the many DAoC forums.
Also; there are generally pretty helpful people kicking about in game. Look for 50's of the class you are looking for and don't be afraid to ask questions. If you guys are on Mid; I'd be glad to help any of you guys out, on Alb and Hib I'm certain there are others who would do the same.

You could google 'daoc template' and there are many results. One is http://www.daoctemplates.net where if you use the 'search' feature you can select template by level. I would search for levels that match the top of a BG, that should be where you find the most templates for characters that are lower than level 50.

Edit: more good info for new and returning players

Great stuff, I'm fiddling around on a 10 day and it's been fun. My experience anecdotally is exactly what semi4 said, leveling is very fast (even if you aren't PL'd) that people basically template once, for Thid/Molvik/level 50. As with most games melee leveling has the weapon(s) as the most important piece of equipment by far.
Side comment, I think there are a lot of friendly people in the game. Also I know people sometimes say players should be more friendly, but I think they are out there, and on the flip side I notice a LOT of people begging for stuff. They aren't asking, how do I get gear, they are saying, gimme gimme gimme. They don't ask, how can I level quickly, they ask, level me quickly. One person last night spent more time begging for a PL from freakin' level 36.6 to 39 than it would have taken to level it. ;p
Couple of my own noob questions:
1) aurulite gear is considered better than the DF stuff right, across the board, if memory serves?
2) Can someone post the rp caps for Thid and Molv? I can probably google this but as long as we are discussing might be helpful for other newish players.
3) Does anyone remember the name on my second account? ;p Lol can't find it. Doh.
4) Can you make a trial account to trade stuff if you need to? Would specifically be aurulite.

That's no longer true. Check individual DF pieces for details, but they were upgraded some time ago.

1L5 (750 rp) and you're done in Thid.
3L0 (61750 rp) and you're done in Molvik

No. Noone does....

Don't see why not.
Probably easier to get a house for that, though.
And it's frequently possible to get a crafter in the capital to help you with transfers.

I do not go to DF anymore but I did read that Mythic, not long ago, updated the drop tables for DF so the DF drops are nicer now than they once were.
Aurulite gear is adequate/fine for leveling and Aurulite gear is easy to come by as Aurulite drops in more places and at a higher rate than it originally did.

if you still have your old user.dat file, open it using notepad and listed under ‘accounts=’, it is in there coded as text offset by one character so g=f and p=o etc. . . ).
Edit: For a very old account the user.dat file would be in the game folder but newer accounts the user.dat was moved to accommodate Win7. The new User.dat file location info
4) Can you make a trial account to trade stuff if you need to? Would specifically be aurulite.
Yes. You can make a trial account, dual log in, transfer things to the trial toon and then over to another account toon.
It is easer to use a home to transfer things but you will not have the plat for a home, vault, etc. . . until you hit around level 40 to 42. Until you can purchase a home, vault, etc . . .and use that to transfer, using a trial account will work.

Just a quick update to say thank you -- Semi's links were very helpful (and the link you offered later to the Freddyshouse boards was great)!
A few comments through the lens of someone who's been away for a long time (I left right after ToA, then returned for a brief and glorious stint on the Classic servers): It's been interesting to me as a former dedicated DAOC player to see how very difficult it's been for my little group (including myself) to make the transition back. Some posts offering help and advice may as well be in a foreign language (laby? OTD? glass? huh?).
And now we're hearing stuff about CLs (quests? No, wait, RvR?) and omg the ToA garbage is in our futures but I am trying hard not to think about it. I hear it's way easier and less PvE-intensive, so I will just hope that is true. It's what drove me away in the first place.
It's fair to say that all of us are competent and long-time MMO players who don't expect (or like) to be spoon-fed anything, but I'm dead serious when I say that it took us a few hours to get through the tutorial zone because we didn't remember anything at all (hey, YOU try to find info on /qbind when you can't even remember that's what it was called in the first place =P). And at least one of us had never played before. This person said her main first impression of the game was hours of "fighting the interface".
Templates are nice and all, but we aren't anywhere close to needing those yet. We need info about leveling specs aimed at people who don't have any idea where their spec points should go. I may have missed something in the Vault guides link that was provided...but in a game with over 40 classes, the 'guides' section had 3 posted that were so dated I doubt that they even apply to the current patch level of the game. Probably to be expected in a game this old, but I wouldn't recommend the Vault to other new players. In the spirit of being solution-focused, I'm trying to collect a few links I've found re: leveling specs for various classes.
Trust me, we've all been using google like crazy. It's requiring a lot of patient searching to glean even tidbits of information so far. As one of my friends said, "...you have to really WANT to play this game". And so far we do. I just hope it's worth it in the end...we're all just so starved for a good PvP game after WoW, Rift, and the string of 'gosh, it had so much potential" releases in the last few years (AoC, Aion, Warhammer).
We don't have much coin or gear, so our first steps revolve around getting equipment, understanding what stats are important to our classes, then earning the coin we need to upgrade (once we understand what to upgrade to).
The advice channel sometimes has, well, advice...but is often silent when questions are asked. As we all learn stuff, we're trying, in our newbie glory, to answer questions when we are able. Individual players are sometimes wonderful information resources and sometimes complete jerks (and just to be clear, we only ask folks for information...not gold or gear).
Anyway, thanks again to all who have tried to help here or who were just willing to chat. Much appreciated!
P.S. I'm assuming that my former guild house has evaporated in the mists of time...I was GM for awhile, then transferred GM to someone else who stopped playing a few months later. I assume the GM role got bounced automatically to other guild members as players left the game. Is there any way of getting a guild house back? It's not a huge deal...it's sort of fun to start from scratch, but I was still wondering about it.
