Btw, I just found out that the BG buff NPC's give 120 minute duration buffs that are like other duration based buffs - they stay even if you zone or if you log out and back in.

Not to start another buff thread, because i've said it all before. But currently you can take any toon from level 10-49, port to the BG's to get buffs, and then port back to the mainland. So it begs the question, why not just put those buff NPC's in PvE area's too then?

Perhaps this is already the plan. However, if it is, it begs the other question, why not give characters the ability to call up a ghost buffer from beyond the grave by /praying for 30-60 seconds, and then being able to purchase these buffs wherever they are. This would be very helpful for those that get buff sheared, or die and get rezzed. Not to mention if anyone wants to PvE somewhere other than the BG's, it seems like a waste of time to travel to a teleporter and zone twice just to get buffs.

Don't tell me, let me guess - it's a lot less coding to put an NPC buffer into place than it is to add what is effectively a new spell to all character classes that summons a merchant?

Though, realistically, if they wanted to do that, copy the code from Sojourner merchant-summoning and go to town.

yeah it really can't take that much code to implement a /command or spell, and then have a buff npc show up in 30 seconds. They can use the exact same existing buff npc's, just change the form into a ghost and make it disappear once the buffs are used. So if you are level 22, you get an exact copy of the buff npc that is currently in Thid, if you are level 41, well you know, the npc's already exist, you don't need to create new ones for every level, they are already tiered for every 5 levels.

obviously because this would require a total revamp of all buff shears, which might actually take some time to program. A summoned buff npc couldn't be too hard.

My prediction: instead of doing any of the things you suggested they will instead change the BG buffers so their buffs drop when you zone like the NF buffers.

lol i was thinking they might do that..

keep in mind, buff npc's still arent accessible to level 50's. Which IMO is the biggest problem, since new players that start the game and get to level 50 have no hope of farming for anything unless they have a friendly guild.

Great thread and excellent points. I am all for things in the game being challenging but I think DAoC needs less frustration and this thread discusses eliminating frustrations.

Just change buff shears to be 30sec-1min debuffs for the same value for what they are supposed to remove in addition to the minor DD effect.
