I could use a free level 34 bot.

It won't be entirely F2P, but I am willing to bet it will be a limited F2P until...drum-roll...level 34. The new user experience focuses a very fluid and direct path to get to level 34 and stops there, and heavily tries to get the player involved in PvP along the way. (Every quest hub has a quest to go to the BGs for that level range, and each hub grants a suit of gear that makes you pretty competent for that BG.)

That makes a lot of sense.

A lot of the ppl asking for F2P around here seem to think that it just means the game would end up being free for them, that perhaps they would charge a small fee for ML10 items (which they already have) so could play daoc without any costs.

I'm sure they will let you keep sending them a monthly subs if you really want to.

If not, you can send me a monthly sub, make it feel the same for you ^_^

For BGs maybe, but for NF it's no longer needed. You can get everything from pots & NPCs now that would match what a level 34 bot can give you, save something like the Friar heal-proc buff which would be just a tad better then half as effective as the level 49 one.

If it were to go F2P to some level cap, then I bet the BGs would be bumpin' at those levels and below, and that again speaks for a 34 F2P cap because after that comes Molvik, which is popular already. That in itself is also a win-win for the game, because any new players would thus experience a thriving low-level game until they (perhaps) get hooked and want to head for big-boy RvR.

With this approach they wouldn't have to invest into huge changes at the end-game, and avoid the risks of alienating current subscribers and either have them downgrade their accounts to play the game for free, or not play at all if they feel alienated by something like a new paid Marketplace full of OPd crap that you have to buy for RL cash just to compete in RvR.

We'll see what happens soon enough, the excitement is building!

EA/Mythic will never make DAOC F2P. EVER!

It's been 10 years. Get over it!

I'm pretty sure there are people here that spend ALOT more time on this game than I do... And yet I say that I don't want F2P because I want them to use the money to maintain the game, and not let it turn into Diablo 2.

It's also nice the way it is where not every single person has their own mini macro farming crew.

lvl 34 huh?

That could make Wilton the 'it' battleground. Interesting.

I don't usually agree with much of anything Idealist has to say, but I am in doubt over the possibility of F2P for DAoC.

If it were implemented, I would say a level cap of 22, so 'free' players cannot be at the top of the game in Thidranki, and many lower level items should have a bonus level of 24 so they cannot twink themselves out willy nilly.

For a fee, they could have thier account flagged as 'level 37', so they can enjoy all of Thid and up to Molvik, but STILL not be at the game top. Change the bounty point items' from the NPC in the main PvE side border keep bonus level to 38, for the same reason as above.

For a regular monthly fee they then get the full game experience.
