I have played daoc when it first came out and I have not played again in years I lost my cd's and dont even remeber my account info .. Im just wondering If daoc still kicking around, is it worth for me to start from scratch again. Is rvr still fun to play like in the good old days .. Are there still good number of players active? and also how many rvr servers are there still? I need some info from active players to give me some feedback about the game, so I can decide if I should play again .. Thanks

Just Do it, There is 1 clustered server now, Ywain1 through Ywain10 and it includes the Euro players so it is active around the clock.

Your CDs are not any good anyway. You need to download the game. All expansions are free now, just download/install. All you need is to pay the monthly sub fee. The following guide is a bit outdated but there is a sticky at the top of the general board about how to download and install DAoC.

The Herald is being recreated and many of the old links no longer work. If you want to see what the game is like, create a 14 day free trial account and log into the game. The new download page is here

Leveling is much faster now than it once was. Back pre SI it would take 25 to 35 days /played to level up a 50 but today you can go from 1 to 50 in under 2 days /played no PL (using PLing is even faster).

Ywain info:

Server population was dieing and to help keep server population up Mythic was clustering servers together. As the player population continued to shrink, Mythic needed to continue clustering servers but they had a huge problem, the database of old characters was becoming so huge (on the existing clusters) the database was becoming unmanageable. Because the existing databases were so huge, Mythic could no longer combine the databases, which meant they could not form a new cluster (yet they needed to cluster the final servers together to keep the population up to keep RvR viable).

Mythic’s solution, create a new server that everyone, all active players, will transfer to (everyone transfers except Mordred and the Coop). There are 10 Ywain login servers that are just character holding areas. The 10 login servers allow players to transfer up to 100 old characters to the new server, but Ywain 1-10 is only one server.

The old servers will be maintained as character holding areas for returning players; so returning players can come back and transfer toons over to Ywain.

If you have level 50s on the old Classic server, there is a quest that gives free ML credit before you are allowed to transfer.

Mostly it does not matter which Ywain you use, as all Ywains are really just one server, but housing on Ywain 1-3 is very full so if you are thinking of getting a house I would use a different Ywain than 1-3.

The following are some links that will have some info that may help

Everyone is on one server now, Ywain, so there's a healthy population 24/7 and there seem to be lots of people returning lately. Levelling is nice and fast now so starting from scratch is no problem. It'll be even better when the new patch arrives as they are totally reworking the new user journey and providing gear sets from RvR and quests which are almost as good as having your own spellcrafted gear. The focus of the game is RvR now, the fastest way to level up is via the battlegrounds. Make sure to stop off in Molvik (35-39) on your way to 50 as there's always some action in that BG. Go for it

Highly recommend doing the Saving Zarees quest for the helm reward. It insta-teleports you (out of combat and only in pve) to the Shrouded Isles starting town for your realm. Very handy teleport item, with no cool-down timer. The quest can be gotten during levels 7-15 and again 48-50. If you miss it during your lower levels you will end up not having it until the last few levels.

Leveling up in the classic zones are going to get you pretty good armor up to about 15.

Your class trainer (or one of them anyways) in your realms' capitol city will gift you with a free chestpiece/robe and a weapon every 5 levels from 10 to 25. Nice stuff!

The Battleground zones are going to get nicer equipment vendor NPCs after this next patch. They have some now, but the currency used and the armor offered for sale is going to change in the patch.

Other stuff to read as noted in previous posts....

It never took 25-35 days played to get to 50. I leveled an Infiltrator to 50 in around 8-9 days played in SI, and it would have been much faster if getting groups wasn't so hard as an assassin.

I must admit that coming back crosses my mind every now and again. I just can't see trying to compete with people that are now RR 25 (?) with every possible item you could have farmed in the last 10 years.

My 3 playable lvl 50s were RR 8,7 and 5 (I think) and didn't even have the most uber gear possible back when I quit.

I keep hoping a new game will come out that might be as good as DAoC was way back in the day but I just don't see it. The 3 way RvR was what made it the most fun IMO.

Oh well, if they ever make a DAoC 2 I will try it, but for now I think I will just look back and try to remember the good old days.

It did at launch, in vanilla Daoc. My first character to 50 was a Hero and it took him around 30 days /played to get there. I have a screenie somewhere that confirms it. It wasn't because he solo'd or anything, in fact he was main tank for a regular guild group and when not doing that duo'd with various classes. It's just how things were back in vanilla, the levelling was very slow. Partly this was how the game was paced and partly it's because everyone was undergeared. Everything changed when SI was launched.

I don't know if it took quite that long but it did take a LOT longer. Quests didn't reward much (if any) xp so you leveled by killing mobs, in groups ideally. The problem was that the gear was usually 85-90% quality and there was no spellcrafting. There were no jewelry items with big stat bonuses and you were looking at items that gave +2-3 to a couple stats. Also, once you hit 40+ there were only a couple places to level and they ended up being yellow con at 48+. In Albion, tree groups in Cornwall were the best thing going for a long time and it took something like 10 hours per level from 40+...if you got a decent group.
