Pvp Lakes... ever heard of this? |
I've been reading and posting over on the SWTOR forums and they refer to the pvp areas in that game as "pvp lakes". A term I have never heard of before. I've asked several people where did that come from. Expecting them to say WoW, a lot of people say this game. I've never heard of this term. Have any of you used the term "pvp lakes" in this game?

Directly, No. However, the BG 10-14 Hills of Cleriet or whatever is nothing but giant lakes.. and I think Molvik and or Lerivik might be in the ball park as well. Ive been playing since 2001 (lost original VN account info) and never heard of that term.

Also, most old timers say "RvR". PvP is a term used in other MMO's. I don't recall PvP ever being used in DAoC until people from WoW or other MMO's came over.

Yea I've never heard of it either but so many of these players keep saying it came from this game. Ha I keep saying no but I just wanted to be sure.

In WAR PvP (or RvR) lakes are the dedicated areas for RvR within the bigger zones.

It was a nice idea in theory but there where two problems:
1. The zones where too small, with too many choke points
2. There was no reason to go anywhere other than zone people where trying to lock
Result = zerg, and contrary to popular design belief zerging is not fun.

I've never heard the term used in Daoc. First time I came across it was in Warhammer. No idea why the RvR zones there were called RvR Lakes, perhaps they didn't want to use the term Battlegrounds to avoid confusion with Daoc and 'that other game'.

Like Kai said, it's called a lake because in WAR and apparently the new star wars game, they have pvp areas in the middle of pve zones.
