I still think if they got rid of the buffbot situation there would be an influx of old "vets" and other new people too. They made a step in the right direction with the new realm buffs. I would like to see them take the + to toa buff% out or just bring the realm buffers to 155 and be on par with everything else. I know this would cut into some of the subs from bots since it seems alot of people use the bots (as I did for many years) but I think the people that use bots for pve and resists will still obviously use them and sub them but it would bring more people back that would not have originally came back since the playing field is now even.

I know this dead horse has been kicked for a while now.

That is probably quite typical of most players these days, having never played under the original system. It would only be possible if they were to switch back to having 3 servers in a cluster and then giving us all the ability to move our toons to another server. Then they could lock down the realms. Not gonna happen sadly.

Those who know how can get around a realm timer anyway so at this point of the game it won't change anything~

There is only one fix at this point for EA/Bioware NOT Mythic.

Create DAoC 2.0
- Update graphics
- Go back to old frontiers
- Get rid of quick ports, must travel in Frontiers
- Go back to 1 realm choice per server
- Get rid of everything ToA and after.
- Crafting and raiding content is primary market for economy
- Upgrade housing to better accomodate all the players, not select few or large guilds
- Get rid of all current RA abilities and go back to pre ToA setup (Less bag of tricks, more skilled based combat)
- Create collisions for avatars (see WAR) to keep people ghosting for styles IE: rear and side styles
- Also make tanks more important for CK, tower and other defenses blocking doors or choke points.


Im sure the list could go on, however, Im an old school player of DAoC.. and frankly games such as WoW and RIFT has completely spoiled kids when it comes to RvR. Get back to the basics, and let the game lead the MMO market as it did once before.

Only way I'd agree to a long realm timer these days is if they gave me the option of moving all of those RP's I made on other realms over the years to a realm of my choosing. I made roughly 5mil on Hib/Guin from 2004-2005. I made over 10mil on Alb/Lamorak from 2005 to the end of classic. And I have made like 3mil on Mid/Ywain as well as a lot more on Hib and Alb Ywain.

I'd like to see a long realm timer, but they would have to make some concessions.

There are 2 types...those that jump on the band wagon and those that jump off. Those that jump off want the challenge and will switch to a realm where the action isn't saturated.

There's far more that jump on a bandwagon than jump off it and realm hopping and relic chasing does cause problems.

The reality is that we're down to one server and this won't change anytime soon, so it's not possible or fair to put in major timers (anything longer than 24 hours) because this restricts player choice too much.

But I do think a longer timer than 5 minutes is necessary. Even an hour would improve a lot of the casual realm hopping that goes on. But something longer like 24 hours would be ideal. Then players would need to decide on a day by day basis where they want to play. This way they are free to play multiple realms, but not to swap between them during any given play session.

If an extended timer is combined with an incentive for realm loyalty as discussed in this thread, I think it will help matters a fair bit.

You have raised a very good point my friend, and this has given me an idea. How about creating incentives based on the population. Now these incentives would have to be glamorous enough to make people want to switch, im talking stat adjustments, similar to the bonuses you get from keep ownership in NF. Even if it doesnt balance out the population it still gives that underpopulated realm an advantage they sorely need. This has just come off the top of my head but im going to do some maths on this and perhaps make another thread because this is very implementable.

I am one for going back to pre 2003 - keep Camelot, SI, and Housing, increase the number of alloted toons per server and make a one house xover the minimum! AND Bring back the old Frontiers.

I miss the old ways, Joined Hibernian Elite Forces, and later From Hibernia with Love, miss the old peeps, but mythic and EA has taken it's toll.
