So, due to an attack of real life disease, I have been unable to play any PC games for a long time. Well, real life has rewarded me with the gift of alot of free time for the next two years or so. I would love to get in to a new game, or back into an old one. Is there still a decent population in DAOC? I watched a few you tube videos of DAOC and the nostalgia almost overwhelmed me. Is it worth coming back? I don't care about game mechanics changes, I just want to make sure there are still plenty of people playing. Enough to still have fun. If not, can anyone recommend something?

I just came back two weeks ago and the population feels way better than what I remember. All BG's are now active because you can quest in them, and there are actually XP/RvR groups running in BG's. I thought XP groups were dead forever, but they are back, even at low level. Level 50 RvR seems action packed as well: I was in a zerg a few nights ago composed of around 75 people fighting an enemy zerg of around 120ish people at a giant keep siege. It brought back quite a few memories and was sincerely fun! So yes, as a returning player myself I would definitely say it's worth coming back.

The population is plenty, we've no official figures however as the herald isn't currently fully functional. It was 3k an evening prior to the herald stats going down though and I don't think it's changed much

The process of starting a new toon at lvl 1 with nothing and grinding up has never been easier either

Me and a few friends have been leveling alot of toons lately via the new BG quests etc and it's very fast, fun and you get decent enough gear doing so

Ywain info:

Server population was dieing and to help keep server population up Mythic clustered servers together. As the player population continued to shrink, Mythic needed to continue clustering servers but they had a huge problem, the databases of existing characters were becoming so huge that the databases were becoming unmanageable. Because the existing databases were so huge, Mythic could no longer combine the databases, which meant they could not form a new cluster (yet they needed to cluster the final servers together to keep the population up to keep RvR viable).

Mythic’s solution, create a new server that everyone, all active players, will transfer to (everyone transfers except Mordred and the Coop). As only active players transfer to Ywain, the Ywain character database is fairly small when compared to a database from one of the old clusters.

There are 10 Ywain login servers that are just character holding areas. The 10 login servers allow players to transfer up to 100 old characters to the new server, but Ywain 1-10 is only one server.

All of your old characters should still exist. The old servers will be maintained as character holding areas for returning players; so returning players can come back and transfer toons over to Ywain.

If you have level 50s on the old Classic server, there is a quest that gives free ML credit before you are allowed to transfer an archived character over to Ywain. If you are moving characters from Classic to Ywain you will want to read up on the transfering to the Ywain server information link on the new Herald.

As all Ywains are really just one server, mostly it does not matter which Ywain you transfer your characters to but housing on Ywain 1-3 is very full so if you are thinking of getting a house I would use a different Ywain than 1-3.

All old accounts have been upgraded to LotM xpac. All xpacs are free now. the monthly subscription fee covers it all. The SI/TOA game engines are no longer supported. The main game download/install from the Herald includes all Xpacs.

There is a great utility, character builder, called Charplan. You will find that it has the most up to date information concerning character abilities

For great maps, see valmerwolf's site.

The game UI is lacking. It would be best if you loaded a custom UI and they can be found by going to the UI VN boards.

Hib actually isn't underpopulated, and if you roll there, have fun trying to get any questions answered or finding a group even in the bgs. Alb is by far the friendliest realm, but mid will do if you dislike albs.

Since the new user hub...I've decided to roll an alb and mid. Gotta tic been having a blast on. I do have to admit, very few trips to the bgs have been groupless, and we have been having a good time.

Haven't rolled a mid yet. But I am in the battlegrounds on a couple different alb toons...and not all have the "Alicia" name for those looking to kill me

Thanks for the replies, and Semi4, that is some great info. I have 7 level 50s on classic servers, and anywhere from 12-14 on various other servers. Will I need to activate my buffbot account also? I heard that NPC's will buff now. Is this a viable option for my main, Vorne (infil)? If not I will prolly stick with my Vamp. I got him to 50 just before I was moved to day shift at work and had to quit DAOC for good. I am super stoked that the population is still good. I keep looking up old DAOC videos and the nostalgia is almost overwhelming. I miss the first 4 years of DAOC. I was in the Military and was able to play every day after work. I would love to experience just a fraction of that fun.
