He's running on my old GTX295, which worked perfectly. And again, it doesn't crash in other games.

I can't really remember what system specs he has, other than the aforementioned GTX295, a Intel Q6600 (i think) and 4GB ram(can't remember brand or speed).

We're gonna try turning of Catacombs models today. On my own PC i run with classic models, as I prefer them :-)

try installing onto a different HDD

sounds random but I had some major FPS lag issues before/slow loading/crashes etc

installed it onto my external HDD and my problems went away.

My car runs fine on highways, nice smooth, no control problems... but for some reason when i take it on old dirt roads its a rough ride, and the steering jerks around constantly....
i dont know wtf could be the problem...

saying the stupid irrelevant comments like "it works fine with x" is pointless and doesnt help the trouble shooting process at all.

No, what's stupid is ignoring relevant information. If I did not provide that information, everyone would assume it was some other problem. The only time the computer crashes is when he's play DAoC.

We have yet to try the Classic models, and installing on different harddrive. Will return after we've tried that.

but, it isnt relevant, daoc is an ancient game, built to run on old tech, with mangled code from years of changes...

the games you listed as running fine, run difrent game engines, and are coded to run on modern hardware...

so there preformance vs daoc has no relevance at all to daoc crashing

the games use difrent shaders, difrent coding for all kinds of hardware acceleration options, there coded for dx10/11 and such where daoc was coded for dx8/9...

wich windows vista and 7, have horrible backwards compatibilty with...

but these major and fundamental difrences in how the games are encoded can have problems in completely difrent areas...

you wouldnt try to diagnos a problem with an old carborated car, the same way you would a newer fuel injected vehicle...

so why would you think comparing a 10 year old game to a modern game would be any help at all.

and to help point out where one of the major difrences is.

vista/7 dont have true directx 9, 8 or older... its emulated...

so games running directx 10/11 have direct hardware acceleration access to a computers resources..

but directx 9 and older, have to go through an emulated software acceleration

wich causes older games to run poorly

Red alert 3, and CnC 3 run great on my vista machine... but Red alert 2, lags and runs sluggish...

even though it ran fine on an amd k6-2 450mhz machine running windows 98.... running modern laptop with vista it runs horrible...

because it doesnt have direct access to resources.

My friend just reactivated along with me, and while I have no problems, my friends DAoC keeps crashing his system. Today after about 50 minutes of play, his computer froze. This has happend several times for him.

He has no problem playing Skyrim or BF3 for hours on end, without crashes. Are any of you familiar with something that could cause DAoC to crash the system?

Here is the fix:

download 4G patch file from here..

http://www.mediafire.com/?mq0rmcib2wi4afw

1) go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot
2) Make copy of game.dll and camelot.exe file and put it somewhere you would remember
3) Extract the 4G patch zip file
4) Open 4gb_patch.exe
5) It will ask you to selected a file.
6) Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot and select game.dll
7) After the patch is done.. do the same thing for camelot.exe file.

It should fix the memory leak problem. If you encounter any problems
after the patch.. just put the files you copied earlier "game.dll and
camelot.exe" back in the Dark Age of Camelot folder.
You will need to do this every time there is an update to DAoC

It is relevant. Someone above said to get some canned air and blow out the dust in the computer. This is something you typically do when the problem is heat. If I know his computer can play BF3 and Skyrim for hours at a time without crashing, then I know DAoC isn't crashing because of heat.

I can tell you're one of those really smart guys that lacks the common sense everyone else seems to have.
