It's definitely intriguing to fans of DAOC-style PvP. I look forward to more details being revealed as GW 2 gets closer to release.

Been watching some GW2 vids and it looks like it will have fun pvp but it still seems like world pvp will be more of an afterthought with the emphasis still on arena combat. But I am starting to be fine with that since I am going through a severe League of Legends addiction right now and the lack of necessitated pve and fluff time wasting is sounding better all the time.

Sounds really nice. I don't think it's really an afterthought at all considering the resources they have to put into this to even get it up and running. Looking at GW1 you can rest assured that they want to get instanced PvP right, as that is their original bread & butter, but I think they're very well aware of the fact that this type of combat isn't for everyone...mostly it's quite casual player unfriendly, which goes almost against it's original design concept! (Quick to get into and out of, but lacking real goals and pre-mades dominate casual players severely.)
I think they recognize this issue and to really draw a large crowd of players you're going to have to be casual player friendly. That's why almost anything will be soloable, every class can solo, no pure support class that can't fight it's way out of a wet paper bag. Also you can level entirely in PvP including getting decent gear without being forced to raid.
If they can deliver on all that, they will have my vote ($$$).
And it won't come as a surprise to those who know me, which class I'm most interested in! (Mesmer )
I'm definitely looking forward to playing GW2. Whether it will hold my interest remains to be seen. I'm always a skeptic as too many past MMOs have completely failed to deliver on what was promised, especially from a PvP/RvR perspective. From the sounds of it GW2 could be the perfect PvPers MMO, with outlets for basically every style of PvP out there from solo to small scale, to RvR. You can solo, zerg, or if you hate the zergs get into instanced PvP.
AoC promised all that too and also with incredible graphics, but it just didn't deliver in the end. I really hope that GW2 will deliver, because it's about time someone does.

DAOC fans need to stop looking for a replacement. There will never be a game even close to DAOC in any shape or form.
DAOC fans have run to every MMO released from 2002 to present searching for the feel of DAOC. Well here you all are still playing DAOC.
No doubt GW2 will be fun, but a similar to DAOC it will never be. The only MMO that will ever be like DAOC is if they ever make a DAOC 2.
When will the truth of it all set in? All true hard core dedicated DAOC fans need to stick with DAOC or quit MMOs all together to avoid disappointment.

While i agree that no game will ever replace DAOC RVR i think this will come very close because this is the 1st game to use the 3way RVR set up again. Ive been following just about everything from GW2 lately. Two of the devs from GW2 have stated that DAOC was their favorite PVP game and talked about running around in old frontiers. they said no one else has tried to do what DAOC did and they hope to be able to bring back te magic that was DAOC.
They did say that WvWvW pvp would be casual but that just in the sense that you can jump right in, as apposed to the planning of tournament fighting. You can still take time to set up stuff like DAOC 8v8 or you can follow the zerg, or go to the keep that has the action or go off and pick off people or just roaming. I plan on playing a thief and picking off people wondering down the trails trying to get to the action spot. Like i did with my SB in OF.

I hope they do put more focus on the 3-way server RvR instead of it being just a casual playground to try out new abilities and classes before going to real matches like they had said in the beginning. But it does give me pause that the official website never mentions 3-way server RvR, just the tournament and hot matches. You have to find 3rd party wiki sites to even know it exists, unless its buried somewhere or I am simply missing it.

GW2 will be superior to daoc. First, it won't require months of pve to get competetitive. secondly, taking objectives will mean something in world rvr. third it will be far better balanced. Many of the world pvp ideas I suggested to mythic 4+ years ago ( supply lines, resources, etc). Lol the chimps at mythic ignored these ideas.

DAoC requires months to be competitive?
Are you kidding me? An average player leveling through the BGs and stopping to cap out in the important ones, as well as running Cathal for a while... will be ~RR4, have 5-20p in the bank, 20k+ bps... How is that months?
You can get PLed from 1-50, start from scratch at 50 and be fully templated in tier 2 (still VERY competitive) gear in a few days.
Taking relics in DAoC is a 10% increase in damage type per relic, taking towers gives bonuses... Like... seriously... taking a keep with a few friends = keys = your first point.
The game will be balanced... because it's like WoW; every server gets the same classes/races/everything. This isn't 3 way rvr... this is three servers fighting (kind of a big difference).
Like seriously though... DAoC is the fastest MMO to get 1-cap, template and be end game ready. You don't think GW2 won't have hours upon hours upon hours of story line you will have to do to be in top tier gear? Raids? Come on man; you REALLY didn't invent the light bulb, you just couldn't find the switch.
