Join a guild, the sooner the better. This not only opens up dialog with other people but will increase grouping options and by extension fun.

You have 3,000 people create an account, be dedicated Morded and then maybe people will leave Ywain for Morded.
But until that day, take a hike... you elitist fraternity scumbag.

Yes Ywain has a good population. The last time the graph was updated, about 7 months ago, it showed peak at just over 3k and almost no decline over time. We do not know exactly what the population is today but based on the past graph trend the peak population should still be over 2500.

Ywain info:

Server population was declining and to help keep server population up Mythic was clustering servers together. As the player population continued to shrink, Mythic needed to continue clustering servers but they had a huge problem, the database of old characters was becoming so huge (on the existing clusters) the database was becoming unmanageable. Because the existing databases were so huge, Mythic could no longer combine the databases, which meant they could not form a new cluster (yet they needed to cluster the final servers together to keep the population up to keep RvR viable).

Mythic’s solution, create a new server that everyone, all active players, will transfer to (everyone transfers except Mordred and the Coop). There are 10 Ywain login servers that are just character holding areas. The 10 login servers allow players to transfer up to 100 old characters to the new server, but Ywain 1-10 is only one server.

Mostly it does not matter which Ywain you use, as all Ywains are really just one server, but housing on Ywain 1-3 is very full so if you are thinking of getting a house I would use a different Ywain than 1-3.

Charplan is a great character builder. It is a downloadable program and has all the updated stats.

Valmerwolf has great maps. For a good UI you can check the UI board.

Player base is insignificant. Most people (and this is a huge generalization) don't like to group with anyone they don't know, even in new MMOs.

That's what zergs are good for.. they are rarely picky on who joins.. so for absolutely new players, it's a great way to get started in the frontiers imho... ofcourse the journey 1-50 will be a lonely one, though the BG quests help to find people willing to group up.

It's critical that you find a guild as fast as possible. Maybe get to level 5 or 10.. then make it a priority to find a guild. There is so much to this game, so much information that you can't easily find online that you will need a guild to ask questions from and learn from.

Hang on here peeps.

Lets not rush this guy into a guild. As we all know there are about a gajillion guilds, my proof consists of no availability on emblems. He needs to find one thats right for him. Rushing into a guild in daoc can be bad, as most guilds have what they call herpes. He doesn't want herpes.

Firstly, don't accept invites to guilds that are constantly spamming. This means they accept anyone, and does not care about you as the individual. More than likely these guilds are lead by assholes. Secondly, don't look for a guild that is too exclusive, as that means you probably have to sign some charter thing saying you are not a noob etc.

IMO find a guild that has a website for communication, at least talks to you before they invite you willingly, and of course (for obvious reasons) has a nice looking guild emblem. I won't tell you how many guilds from alb/mid I have not joined based on that last factor, and even more for stupid names.

If you want the true RvR experience, dedicate yourself to a single realm's war, and follow the guide lines I have posted.
